Bidrage med feedbackWe went to Il Etait une Fois two times (so far) and enjoyed the ambiance, food, and service. The menu is fixed and changes according to what looks good to the chef. The local pork is often featured and should be tried when you are in the area. You will probably need a reservation. Any fish dish will be excellent. The cost is extremely reasonable.
We came to Il Etait une Fois for our first dinner as a part of Cooking in Provence, a culinary tour of Provence with Chef Kathy of Food Lover's Odyssey. Kathy lived in Provence and knows the young owners. The meal was incredible good and a wonderful entree to the cuisine of Provence. There were four of us and everyone thoroughly enjoyed each course. Delicious dishes in a € 24 (2 plate + dessert) lunch menu near to a Cours! The enteriőr is rather modern where a warm welcome helps you to enjoy your time in Aix. HUGE list of quality wines. We can just recommend this place.
We were advised to go here as Le Bistro Latin is shut on Sundays. Nice couple owing it but slightly rattled by us arriving just as they were getting going. Thought we were being ignored at first but then everything kicked in and we had a lovely meal.
We celebrated my spouse's 60th birthday here, per a recommendation from the owner of our apartment in Aix. She said most restaurants aren't open on Sunday nights, but thought we'd enjoy IlEtait une Fois. This small restaurant is run by a husband & wife. He's the chef, she is the only server. It was fairly busy, which explains why the service was not very attentive, and our food was somewhat overdone and not very hot by the time it arrived. The food, however, was creative. Our highlight was an appetizer of fresh sardines on a waffle, which was excellently prepared. I believe the restaurant would benefit from additional wait staff to better accommodate their guests. We recommend going, as it was a pleasant dinner.
