Bidrage med feedbackThis was a group reservation for 14 persons that was handled extremely well, with all orders served just about at the same time. Bravo. The food was excellent and so was the service. Everyone in the group was very pleased with the experience. Well worth the special trip to get there, a 2 to 3 hour drive for most of the group.
It's worth the trip--a two-hour drive from anywhere albeit past some of the most magnificent vistas in Nova Scotia. But the food is superb. On the one hand, it's casual dining in a rural setting in a seaside village. On the other, you'll get some of the tastiest, locally sourced food on the planet, served by pleasant and energetic staff at a surprisingly affordable price. Upon making our selection, we were presented with complimentary tastes of non-alcoholic aperitifs with popovers. Our drinks were rhubarb sodas made on-site, light and refreshing. Our starters were tangy lobster bisque, seafood chowder and a gazpacho delightfully garnished with herbal flowers. The pasta mushroom and pasta clam entrees were rich and creamy ... and filling. The halibut with hodge-podge is exactly what you'd expect from local fresh fish and fresh picked veggies. Nova Scotians set a high standard for fish dishes and summer veggies, and Wild Carraway lives up to that standard. We really didn't have room for dessert, but each couple split one ... because they were there? ... because we could? ... because they looked so good ... and were. There's lots to see and do in and around Advocate Harbour, and if you stay in the area overnight, you should, because you'll be able to eat again at Wild Carraway. Mark my words, it'll be the perfect ending to your day.
Over the years, I've always looked forward to dining at the Wild Caraway. A little disappointed on Canada Day weekend. Service was really slow for our entrees -- like 45 to 60 minutes (really?) should be more like 15 minutes max. -- but at least we were all served at once. We had made a reservation weeks in advance so not sure why this happened. Also, for the first time ever, I found my entree much too salty. I was so looking forward to this dish (I love curry,) but just could not get past the excessive salt. The heat (spice) was right on the mark. All in all, just a little disappointed, as I've always had such a great experience at this restaurant. I hope they can correct these 2 problems soon.
OMG! Fabulous place! Such nice decors, good service, friendly people, beautiful gardens, ... And delicious food! You won't find standard fare here. It is all fine dining, using fresh local produce. The menu changes regularly depending on what's in season. And it is beautifully prepared and presented. I had the scallops, which came with perogies stuffed with green peas and a selection of other vegetables and unidentified garnishes. Fantastic! My wife had the haddock -- tender and flaky. Save room (if you can) for dessert. Mine had blueberries in it, but I forget the name and now the menu has changed so I cannot track it down. But it was yummy!Reservations are recommended.
Had a great meal here with my family. We have travelled all over Nova Scotia and this was our best meal. What a treat in this remote area of the province. If your in Advocate harbour you have to eat here.
