The Pelican - Addlestone

My husband is from the area, so when we took the kids on holiday this summer, we had to visit some of the local spots he remembered from his youth. This lovely pub has a cozy indoor bar area and beautiful outdoor seating by the river. The service was quick and the food quality was excellent. We also enjoyed a few pints, which were very refreshing on a hot day. I wish I could go back and try more dishes from the menu, as they also have daily specials. While some may say the menu is limited, I felt that they have expanded their offerings since 2011. If you're in the area and looking for a charming, quiet spot to relax and enjoy a meal, The Pelican is a great choice.

My friend recently moved nearby and suggested we try the pub, which has recently started serving Thai food. The food was amazing! We decided to share a starter and asked if we could get the mixed starter for 3 people (normally for 2), and the waiter happily accommodated our request. The king prawns, prawn toast, and spring rolls were all delicious, but the chicken satay was especially outstanding. Our main courses were also excellent - my friends both had Pad Thai, which was delicious and not too spicy. I opted for the Thai green curry with steamed rice, which was absolutely delicious. The price of the meal for 3 people with drinks was very reasonable, so we all agreed that we will definitely be returning to try more dishes from the menu.

The exterior of this pub is impressive, situated next to the Wey navigation with a lovely river garden. However, the interior is quite outdated, resembling something from the 1980s. The food menu is very limited and overpriced for the quality. It's like eating at a low-quality version of JD Wetherspoons, but at double the price and with very few options. The tables were sticky and the service was indifferent. You had to grab cheap packet sauces from a dirty table in the corner. Despite working nearby for five years, I have only visited this pub 10 times, even though my colleagues and I go out for lunch every day. That speaks for itself.
