Joe Allen Pit Bar-B-Q - Abilene

Although this is a BBQ place but they really have one of the best ribeye steak in Texas. The steak is flavorful and juicy without putting any sauces. You order the steak by inches instead of ounces here. Really recommend order the 2 ' ' steak and share it with another person. My friends order 3/4 ' and 1 1/3 ' steak but mine got the perfect medium. The fried onion and okra is also good. Really recommend this place if you come by abilene.

Awesome, no-frills BBQ. Despite the pit being nowhere in sight, the all-wood decor should feel right at home for any BBQ restaurant veterans. The menu has all the staples (brisket, ribs, etc), and even ribeye for those wanting something a bit more. Both the turkey and sliced brisket were cooked perfectly, and came with a tangy BBQ sauce that complemented both. The okra and veggies were great sides, neither one overcooked. The potato salad was a bit unusual, being more mashed than usual, but still flavorful. All of this great food was complemented by the terrific servers, who kept our drinks full and offered great suggestions.

I was traveling from Odessa to Fort Worth and had a taste for bbq. I googled best bbq in Abilene and Joe Allen’s came up. I was not disappointed! Hands down some of the absolute best bbq I have ever had. The brisket was moist and delicious with a very tasty sauce to dip in! Trust me when I say these folks know what they are doing. The staff was friendly and efficient. Considering Joe Allen’s is a short jog off I20 I plan to make this a regular stop…

Stopped here for lunch on a Monday while on a motorcycle trip. I ate in the bar area which was pretty empty so service was fast and friendly. The dining room must have been busy as there were a ton of cars in the parking lot. The BBQ combo plate was great. I'd stop and eat here again.

I went for the 1st time ever last week and the food was awful! The bread was hard, the corn was old, the steak was $30 grisly very tough and hard to eat (I did eat half of it) , but what topped it off for me was the baked potato was so over cooked and tasted so nasty I couldn't eat it! I will never go back! The pictures don't show you completely but it was like rubber!
