Bidrage med feedbackOn Monday, June 25th, I visited the Bognie Arms without a reservation. I received a warm and friendly welcome. The evening meal was promptly served in a cozy and quiet atmosphere. The Chicken Balmoral, a dish of chicken breast wrapped in bacon, stuffed with haggis, and served with whisky cream sauce, was excellent. My husband played it safe with chicken nuggets, which were slightly overcooked, leading to a four-star rating rather than five. Despite this, the overall experience was good value, with a nice meal and friendly, efficient service.
Went here for a coffee stop whilst out cycling. Large pot of Tea, proper mugs and great homebakes. Will return when out that way again.
Went for supper tonight and ordered the roast beef. Whilst waiting for the food to come out in the dining room, we noticed the couple on the next table were also having the beef. We heard them telling the waitress that the beef was really tough and that they could not cut it. We kept an open mind but when our food arrived, the beef was so tough it was impossible to cut it without a struggle. Beef should be tender and cooked so that it melts in your mouth if it is so tough to cut that you feel that you need an electric knife then it is not good enough to eat. We refused the meal and the chef came out. He said that he had the beef for lunch and it was fine but we explained how tough it was the couple on the next table also aired their grievances about it. We ordered chicken gougons for our daughter and the waitress said they had to put in fresh because the first ones had a 'reaction ' to the tray goodness only knows what she meant by this. We paid for the drinks and left, we did not eat the meal. The decor leaves a lot to be desired and the whole place needs renovated, not an inviting atmosphere. The menu is limited and expensive. We went straight to the Gordon Arms Hotel in Huntly which has an excellent menu lots to choose from and the food quality is first class, it is also much cheaper than Bognie.
Nice little place. Good home made food. Fresh produce and quick service. There hasn't been a decor update in many years but it's cosy and striped back. If you want a quick bite of food on your way home it's the place for you.
I visited here with my adult daughter, 5 year old grandson and my friend who was visiting me from Ayrshire. I had been before and promised my friend a home cooked meal she would enjoy. She was not disappointed. Everything served to us was lovely and we enjoyed 2 courses each. The management and staff were friendly and attentive at all times and added to the pleasure of our evening.
