The Alfred Free House - Waverley

Went for Sunday lunch. The staff were very nice and went out of their way to help with parking/wheelchair access for the more infirm folks in our party. Sunday lunch was huge £21 for one meat through to £25 for 3, but with a lot of trimmings so you probably only need one course. Tasty too. The atmosphere is not fancy/gastropub style more like a traditional boozer. Beer range looked good but i didn’t try due to driving duties.

Wonderful lunch: tasty and fresh ingredients, excellent lamb shank, delicious and original hamburgers. Service was excellent with kind and warm waitress and owner. Prices were very fair given the quality. You can’t go wrong with this restaurant. Thank you very much, we will definitely come back! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We went to this restaurant for the first time with a group of six people and were impressed by the large portions of delicious food. Two of us ordered fish dishes and found them to be lovely. Another person tried the homemade fish cakes with salad and was unable to finish the generous portion. The lamb shanks were also a hit with two members of our group, as they were cooked perfectly and had plenty of meat. I opted for the calves liver and bacon, which was well-cooked and tasty. We all felt a bit guilty for not finishing the hearty portions of vegetables. Overall, we would highly recommend this restaurant. The price per person was around £30-40.
