Bidrage med feedbackBeautiful family bar and restaurant near the center of the village. we only thought we were coffee, but they couldn't have been more friendly.
We luckily found this restaurant because we stopped since the lunch hour was almost over. It is right next to the castle and seems to be the spot for the locals in the village to go for lunch also. You felt like a local versus...a tourist. The food was simple but excellent.
The Taverna is open early and is the hub of village activities , beer and coffees in the morning in the bar or under the trees outside by the castle walls. Lunch was a good steak chips and salad and a good Corbieres wine ,...I became very busy with cyclists arriving and teenagers using the WIFI. A great simple lunch in a wonderful setting , Swifts and Swallows hurtling by..
We had lunch here with our two teenagers. The portions are generous. The menu is simple omelettes, steak, frites, goats cheese salad. The cost is reasonable. But, most of all, it is a lovely setting as it is beside the walls of the Castle.
On our recent holiday to this region we decided one day to just jump in the car and go exploring. We were staying in Lagrasse which is a great place to explore this region from. We thought of going to look at the castle situated...in this tiny hamlet of a town. After about a half hour drive we found the village and had a walk around. It is jaw droppingly pretty here, the castle is a curious attraction but worth hunting down. The real jewel here though was the village. We wondered around its tiny cobbled streets and came across a lovely little terrace where the only bar in town is to be found. What a treat we had stumbled across!.La taverna, is a small family owned bar-restaurant. Its simplicity is its joy. Offering the most stunning location with its veiws across the stream to the castle it was such a pleasure just to sit under the shade of the trees with a cold drink on the terrace and just enjoy the atmosphere. My enjoyment however was soon to be trebeled when looking at what the menu had to offer. Its not exactly varied offering only basic choices for example, omlette and chips or sausage and chips or duck and chips, you get the idea. However when our choices arrived we were bowled over by what we got. Truly huge portions! and deliicious. I had chosen the sausage with pomme frites and a salad. The sausage was localy sourced and easily more than a foot in length!, it was mouthwateringly good!. The pile of chips to accompany it would have fed three hungry people easily, they were fantastic, freshly cooked to a crispy golden colour I could have eaten them all day!. The salad was also perfectly executed, simple leaves and fresh herbs with a wonderful dressing. The whole meal although basic in its ingredients was fabulous and the sheer quantity was mind boggling!. My choice was only 7 euros and our whole bill only came to 34 euros for three of us including drinks, puddings and coffe!. By far the cheapest meal we had in France and for sure one of the most delicious. I hope to return here some day and hope to find it unchanged. If your in the area do check it out and take an appetite with you!!!!!!.
