Bidrage med feedbackLarge poutine with extra pepperoni, the toppings barely covered half of the poutine, the fries were undercooked, but the cheese was excellent. In short, it's best to avoid Max Poutine.
My wife and I love poutine, so we were excited when we happened to pass this restaurant named Max Poutine at lunchtime. The menu was exciting, with something like 100 different variations of poutine. The prices were similar to restaurants in Quebec City, which seemed expensive. We ordered a medium size General Tso's (General Chao's, etc. poutine for $15CAD. It sounded exciting, with popcorn chicken and General Tso-chicken-style sauce. The reality was disappointing. The fries were frozen crinkle-cut fries from a bag, not fresh, though they were cooked properly. The cheese curds were OK with some flavor, though they seemed clearly to be factory-mass-produced (with a dry rubbery texture much like Polly-O brand mozzarella cheese from a vacuum-sealed plastic package in a supermarket . The chicken was obviously frozen popcorn chicken from a bag. Worse than big-chain fast food restaurant quality chicken fingers. There could have been more sauce, but the main problem with the sauce wasn't the quantity, it was its in-authenticity. I am not familiar with General Tso's chicken as served in Chinese restaurants in Quebec, so the sauce may be rather different from what I'm familiar with in New York; however, this sauce was essentially some type of Worcestershire sauce or Worcestershire-based steak sauce with scallions thrown in. I was saddened by the fact that the ingredients were all industrial and frozen, though I understand that this frequently is case in restaurants outside of urban areas, so that doesn't make this a bad restaurant, just a typical but disappointing restaurant. I can say three good things about the restaurant: It was very clean inside. The woman who took my order at the counter was very kind, though there was no table-service attention. At least the food was a huge pile on the plate. So, it wasn't very good, but there was a ton of it. That's good because, for the price, it should have been a mountain. The medium size fed two of us, and I believe their small size is equivalent to what I've seen in Montreal and Quebec City sold as the large size.
The manager is an absolute moron who has zero customer service sense. We placed an order online at 5h12 PM and I called at 5h19 PM (7 minutes later) to have them change something and I would pay extra for my change and they absolutely refused to help me with my request they continued to say my order was already complete and ready for pick up (all in the 7 minutes total time it took) Their website indicated my order would be ready at 5h45pm clearly they made it within minutes. I complained saying my fries and sauce would be all soggy now as I didnt prepare to pick up my order 5 minutes after placing it. Nonetheless the manager is a complete loser who yelled at me telling me I am asking for free food .. total and absolute idiot! Never again Best poutine in victo is at restaurant victo Victoria anyways and it has always been Only reason I went to max pputine was because someone from our party wanted their poutine. So done with them. No thanks.
Max calls himself the King of Poutine. I doubt his subjects would agree. We ordered take-away while staying at a local hotel in Victoriaville. Here's how the King managed to get everything wrong: 1. Delivery took over an hour. That's for a poutine and a half, a club sandwich and one Coke to be delivered less than 3km away. 2. The food was actually really bad. Frozen crinkle cut fries with so little sauce that only the centre fries were coated in it. I must say that the cheese was good though, which is just as well as that's the only thing I could eat. The club sandwich had clearly been slapped together, was soggy and overfilled with large chunks of iceberg lettuce. A right princely treat. 3. This feast cost us over $30. What a rip off. Not going back to that kingdom again.
I was really late! But the service and food was awesome! 100 would recommend!
