Bidrage med feedbackAs the previous reviewer described as well, opah exudes a trendy-zen ambience w/its glass inside, sea green/blue hues, and slim dark wooden tables. It is an impressive display when you first board. as for food, the dishes are beautifully presented and taste as good as they look. I was happy to eat here, and the only drawback (or aspect that could keep me from returning here is the price - it is expensive!!! Service was terrible and the ambience is loud, but if you don't mind breaking the ole piggy bank a little, eating here for the food is worth considering.
Although it is nested between BJ and IHOP, Opah makes a great task, you feel as if you weren't close either. The decor is very modern and trendy. Outside there are very cool (good, hot) fireplace seats that I have to try one day. Prices are a bit high, but it looks like it has cheaper sandwiches and lunches (like the Kobe Burger). The service was a little dirty. It sometimes seemed hard to find our waiter, and he forgot one of our orders (but it was very fast after we had reported it). We came to a birthday and they were able to store our cake, bring it to singing/canning bags and then serve the slices for us. While that was nice, he forgot that we brought the cake first and wanted to sell us to Dessert. If I want a nice meal in Irvine, I'll probably come back here again, but I'll probably get a sandwich next time.
Two things to know before they go to Opah: 1) Opah (aka moonfish, sunfish, kingfish, Jerusalem haddock): a fish usually caught in hawaii. Order “SEA” on the menu (e.g. fish like Opah, Lake Bass) not “LAND” (lamb, Prime Rib). 2) Have a well-stocked wallet or credit card ready First impression: “Zen meets NYC” Interior equipment (glass tables, small zenstein on each napkins, open fire box), a well-stocked bar, many hip young white people in a city of the Aseren. LOVE your warm toast bread! Each loaf comes hot fresh in an individually packed sandwich bag! Second impression: snobby hostess Third impression: Great presentation of all dishes. I had something special for the night — a lamb carrier grown on potatoes. Maybe my expectation surpassed reality. I was not too impressed by the “Special”. At first the waiter did not even ask if I wanted a well-made / medium / Rare meat. I had a blood pool in the middle of the rack and I usually command well. Secondly, it was a bit difficult to cut the lamb because the meat was so stiff. I had to fight to get the meat from the fork. I had taste of my cousin Lake Bass and Grandpa. They were excellent. I especially liked her sea bass (melt in your mouth) and “bang bang shrimp” mmmm! I would definitely go back for an after-work cocktail. Finally, a small snobbishness in OC is harmless. Right?
