La Vieille Auberge - Tinténiac

The highlight of my visit to Rennes last weekend, was an amazing dinner at La Vieille Auberge.

My grandparents live a short drive away and have been coming here many years. They absolutely rave about it and truly can't accept there's many better around. Despite coming to the region for many years myself I've never had the pleasure of visiting before now. Well what treats I was missing out on! The food was of the highest order and seriously I've not tasted much better. The chef is highly skilled and all the flavours mix perfectly. The price is also extremely fair for what you get as you could expect to pay double or triple that for similar elsewhere. We had the set menu:Starter-A Goats Cheese and Tomato BakeMain-Cod with Veg Dessert-Cheese BoardI can't justify just how good this meal was in mere words. The only negative is that I've not been coming before.I really hope people see this and visit it as it is easily missed as it's set back from the road in a quiet area. If you're anywhere near then make every effort to visit!

We hadn't intended to dine rather than just eat lunch but suddenly remembered seeing this restaurant on passing previously. Thank goodness we took the decision to stop. Lunch in Brittany restaurants tends to be strictly at 12 noon and arriving at 1pm unexpected can mean disappointment. However we were welcomed when we said we were no in a hurry. Dissipate this proviso we quickly had menus, explanations as required and our orders taken. There was a wide choice of set menus with at least three choices in each course. These ranged from sumptuous to reasonably price. With our budget we decided on the latter and were thrilled at the high standard of food. Another late comer was similarly welcomed and seated close by. A nodding acquaintance ensured and between three different decisions we commented on how impressed we all were. The staff were friendly, efficient and our plates were presented and cleared with minimal fuss. The wine list was good with choices to suit any food presented. I would go back in an instance!

We found this jewel of a restaurant just by chance when getting off the motorway.It is located in an ancient mill, a charming historical building that offers various types of menus all of the highest quality.Service and kindness are also top notch!Highly recommended!

The restaurant is located in Hédé, close to Rennes, and everything from the starters and entrees to the desserts and wine pairings were perfectly prepared and considered by Chef Jean-Marc Leffondré. The host, Eric Leffondré, and waiter were prompt and extremely polite, adding the family feeling to an already charming and romantic ambiance with the stunning views on the pond and surrounded by nature.
