Bidrage med feedbackSushi Bowl was the inaugural Japanese restaurant to grace Thunder Bay, offering a fresh and unique experience to the local residents.
Today for lunch, we visited Sushi Bowl and I was pleasantly surprised by the good service we received.
The food was delicious, but the service appeared slow despite the small number of diners present.
Trust me when I say I won't be returning until the staff is properly trained. I felt bad for the waiter who couldn't ansrew any of my questions about the conveyer belt. At the end of my last visit, my friend I ended up paying 30 dollars each for a few pieces of sushi off the belt which is more than an all you can eat dinner. Super disappointing. However, the atmosphere is gorgoues!
Big City Quality. This is my first entry, I was actually inspired to join because of this restaurant, we were that impressed. The decor is simple, elegant and clean, as are the restrooms. We were there mid afternoon, so there was only one staff member, but he was very professional, respectful of our privacy, and yet attentive to our needs. The selection of fish is limited to the usual suspects, but the portion size and quality of the fish is incredible. Of equal importance, the fish was perfectly chilled and the rice was not warm, like so many places. We ordered the rainbow pizza, gyoza, spring rolls, and the following rolls: king salmon, spider, and crunchy. It was the first time we had ever had a sushi pizza and it was delicious; the rice was both crunchy and chewy at the same time, there was a more than generous helping of crab and thick, beautiful slices of salmon, tuna and red snapper. The pizza was topped with almost too much caplan roe and just the right amount of spicy mayo - a resounding success!!The spring rolls were fried perfectly, so the wonton wrapped are crispy and delicate, no effort to bite through. The filling was vegetarian and served with a traditional Vietnamese dipping sauce. While the Gyoza was cooked well, they were a pre-made, frozen product. The three rolls were delicious, each with a generous filling of REAL crab. . . not the crab sticks so often found. . . and beautiful slices of fish. If their was one fault to be found, it was that the rolls were more than one bite and therefore a little messy. Personally I would have liked to see them a little smaller and more tightly wrapped. The prices are typical for a sushi restaurant, in my humble opinion, and the food of better quality than most. When you consider the portion size of the sashimi and that they are using real crab. . . well worth the value. Alcohol, on the other hand is almost prohibitively expensive . . . $8.50/bottle for Kirin or Saporro (small bottles.)All in all, and excellent meal, great atmosphere and a professional server. Enjoy. . . we did.
