Fabulous and fun bar. Good locals hangout and tourists welcome
Beer 30 is located in a small strip mall. While the exterior of the buildings appeared a bit run down, the vibe inside was fantastic. Miranda (I hope I’m spelling her name right), the barmaid, was friendly and cheerful. She welcomed us with a smile, as did a customer at the bar who was waiting for his drinks. A quick glance around the room confirmed we had made the right choice—the crowd was diverse in age, with some in their twenties, a few in their thirties, and the majority older, like myself. The bar was festively decorated for Halloween, and it looked great, as the photos show. I’m not much of a drinker anymore, maybe having a pint of wine a couple of times a month. I know that most bars serve low-alcohol wine in those small bottles, and it looked like they did too. However, when I inquired about the wine selection, Miranda offered more options than most bars back home. I decided to try something different. In my youth, I was a tequila guy, so I ordered a shot of the house tequila and a Miro brew chaser—Sweet Water 420, or something like that. I also haven’t had beer in years, but I ordered it based on a picture I saw in their online review. Being an ex-stoner, I found the 420 road sign on the can pretty cool. It was a pale ale, and it took some time to get used to, but by the third shot, it was tasting really good. After two shots and half my beer, I asked Miranda about their top-shelf tequila, explaining that I usually drank either mezcal or the cheap stuff. She shared details about Don Julio, but mentioned she preferred a different, less expensive brand. Since I was on vacation, I decided to try the higher-priced tequila. I have to say, I was not impressed and wished I had taken Miranda's recommendation instead. To me, it tasted like most tequilas—just a bit smoother but not worth the price; I would have preferred the cheaper option. My brother struck up conversations with some locals who came to the bar for drinks. They were friendly and answered our questions about the cost of living in the area. From what I could see, there were a couple of pool tables and a few other games in the bar. I didn’t notice any pinball machines, but I was there for drinks, not games. We didn’t order food, but a couple of locals mentioned it was good. The place wasn’t packed but had a nice crowd for a Wednesday afternoon in the off-season. We had a great time and even got a bit touristy, buying t-shirts to remember our visit. We hope to come back before our trip wraps up in a couple of days. By the way, I would give them five stars across the board, but due to my OCD, I prefer to stick with even numbers. LOL.
Not quite ready to call it a day, I found myself craving a drink, and this place was the perfect stop. It's a local spot with a welcoming atmosphere and plenty of friendly people around.
Fantastic local spot! The food is delicious, and the staff is even more impressive. We visited every night during our trip, and it’s also very budget-friendly.
