Vela Bianca - SORRENTO

Pros- location- beautiful shuttle- timely and fast. Cons- a bit overpriced for underwhelming food compared to other places we had eaten dinner at. Biggest disappointment- waiter asked for a cash tip. We had been in Italy for 10 days, and eaten out every day, NO ONE asked us for a tip. Turned off by that since it’s to our understanding that tips are not required or expected in Italy as it’s in the states. Service was ok not outstanding… made us feel uncomfortable.

I 'm writing this while still sitting in Vela Bianca after having a first class meal. I 'm coeliac so I can 't eat wheat etc. I asked if they did gluten free pasta and without hesitation the waiter said of course . Without asking, a soft, tasty gluten free bread roll appeared to go with my pasta with Genoese ragu. If you haven 't tried this it is a wonderful combination of onion, carrot and beef reminiscent of a hotpot. My wife had a cheese filled ravioli in a tomato and basil sauce. Empty plates were sent back from both of us.

This is a fantastic local restaurant in Sorrento, attached to the hotel Il Faro. It was recommended to us by the desk clerk at our guest house, as a good restaurant where locals go to eat. He was right, and we loved the gracious and friendly service, and of course the sea food cuisine. We had some of the best spaghetti alle vongole (clams) that we had in our 2 week trip to Italy. They also featured a wonderful sea food special on large ringed local pasta that our waiter recommended and glad we took the recco! We returned a night later for the seafood risotto – a mix of clams, mussels and small shrimp (alicie) that was delicious. The concierge recommended a local white Campania wine, delicious, light and affordable. The Faro hotel is located by the Marina Piccola, down a steep hill from the center of Sorrento – and an expensive cab ride from the center of town’s Piazza Tasso. To avoid the cab charge, have your hotel or guest house reserve a table, and then the hotel will arrange a pickup with their shuttle service at the Piazza San Antonino (50 meters from Piazza Tasso). They will arrange a car to return you to the center of Sorrento after dinner as well.

Friendly and professional staff that caters to their guests! Good food and atmosphere was the cherry on top.

Chi non ha problemi di portafoglio, a sorrento avrà solo l'imbarazzo della scelta per decidere quale ristorante sedersi. chi viaggia a basso budget avrà alcuni problemi extra: per questo tipo di viaggiatori, una buona scelta può essere questa pizzeria, situata sulla piccola piazza marina. il ristorante ha prezzi in media, ma la pizza è abbastanza economico e soprattutto molto buono. ha raccomandato la sorrentina, che è preparata con una treccia di mozzarella fresca. i camerieri sono molto gentili e accoglienti.
