Bidrage med feedbackThe first time we went through the city. ordered the traditional double-wood sandwich. yum, yum, yum. friendly staff, polite and answers all those who had my crosses over the place.
This place is just wonderful. It's very much a family hole-in-the-wall old fashioned place; if you're looking for something fancy go somewhere else. But the food is just so amazingly good. They have wonderful soup and the Friday night fish fry is fantastic. I got fresh perch with shrimp in December and the perch was as good as if I just caught it. And they make their own sauces. Definitely worth the trip.
The brat sandwich is exactly what it looks and sounds like; a cut open brat on a roll. It gets more charring this way but loses it's snap. Nothing to sing about. The fries, 0 salt added by the cook and some tasted like they weren't completely fried. Salting them yourself at a table isn't really efficient with the small cardboard tub they serve them in. Paid $10 for this experience and of course they don't take card here. This is a spot for the locals across from their school, not a place that people should drive in from the highway for.
The server was really friendly! But she could not help the fact that the order was screwed up. The food was terrible. Fries not cooked enough, burger cooked way too long. Steak came with onions but didn't order any onions. No extra butter or even butter. It was just bad all the way around. Their food used to be great.
I've been going here since I was 5 years old in 1986. My grandparents owned Fredrick's bakery just up the road on 8th street. Nothing better than a steak sandwich on a hard roll and an order of onion rings. 5 star review for all the years of great food, but I unfortunately had a bad meal tonight for the first time in many years; not sure what happened here. Hard roll seemed to be a few days old, and the onion rings felt and tasted like they had been sitting around for an hour. First time in a very long time that I can remember having a bad meal. New cook? I don't know. If Scott or Roger happens to read this, I hope you can address it quickly. Thanks.
