We discovered this restaurant last Saturday when we took a history tour through Querétaros historical center. We went by and said we'd come back later to check it out. So glad we made it! We arrived early in the evening and decided to sit inside. The place had a beautiful European ambience, decorated with “Cyclist Jerseys” in devotion to the owner’s father. We sat right away. The first thing we noticed was that there were other dogs inside and outside on the terrace. We were happy to let the owner/cook personally wait for us (together with his friendly dog at his side). The restaurant had a nice selection of wines from Baja California. I tried a wonderful sauvignon blanc from a small vineyard. The label was designed by Bansky, the famous graffiti artist. Hubby tried a Baja California Cabernet Maqaarka, which was very smooth and tasty. We ordered items we know, like medallions of goat cheese with basil oil, basil on a tomato and chorizo baked in red wine reduction and fresh bread there, slightly immersed in oil. Both dishes were excellent! Then we were asked if we wanted to try “sometimes different and unique”. We did not hesitate and said “yes!” Next we knew that he brought out croquettes; what we had before, but they were made with tender little pigtail; a unique and pleasant aroma. Very nice! Then we were served delicate boneless chicken Giblets (neck) wonderfully spiced and served on homemade roasted bread. Normally we would not order these articles so glad that he made the suggestions. The owner spent a decade in Spain and brought a culinary training that you can experience here in CHAMIZO! It was an unforgettable experience that should be repeated. This is a relaxed, friendly and welcoming place with indoor and terrace seating. A great place to your furry friend, order a beautiful glass of wine and enjoy some real Spanish tapas while in the vicinity of Querétaro.
My wife and I are eating here on June 10, 2019. We found it on the way back from Acueducto to Centro Histórico. Tapas and Tinto de verano. Delicious. Our server, Daniel, was pleasant.
El Chamizo is a cafe fabuloso in the direction of Fundadores. It is in a perfect location to sit and watch the work go by. The food is tapas style and is exquisite, from the beautifully presented salads to the amazing fried gambas you cannot...go wrong on the menu.
We stumbled on Chamizo just before heading to the Museum of Contemporary Art which is also worth a visit. Located in the apex of two streets just off one of the centro's plazas, Chamizo has indoor and outdoor seating and feels very European. For December,...we couldn't believe the gorgeous weather so sat outside. We stopped in for just a local artesian beer but after we saw a few food items go by decided to also order food. We wanted Vegetarian which they had. Great food, location and dog friendly. The owner speaks Spanish and English. He opened this Gastropub after recently returning to Mexico from years of working in restaurants in Barcelona. You can't go wrong here!
