Bidrage med feedbackThe BEST seafood I have had in Newfoundland! This was a recommendation by a local and was so good. It is one those hidden gems. The food is reasonably priced, portions are large and wonderful service. If you are a tourist, please try and make this a stop in your travels like we did. So worth it and compared all other seafood dishes to what we had after that. Well worth it!
Outstanding seafood, wonderfully friendly service three nights in a row! The local farmed mussels are the best I've ever had. The cod tongues have me still speaking. The cod brewis with scrunchions was fabulous. We shared a huge serving of local snow crabs so sweet! And the desserts, oh, the desserts ... rhubarb soup, partridge berry pie, and I hear the fried ice cream with bakeapple sauce is equally heavenly!
We came here for dinner and order cod chowder, today's special (seafood platter), and fish and chips. I really like the chowder because it reminded me of how my grandmother used to make fish chowder. It is simple yet delicious. The fish and chips was very generous in portion and tasty. For dessert, we got the partridge berry pie with soft serve ice cream. I loved that pie!
One of the few places to eat in the L'Anse Aux Meadows area. The seafood was fresh and portions generous. Highly recommend the pan fried cod. Also fresh mussels, if they are offering it as a daily special. Restaurant caters to locals as well as tourists. When we were there during a recent trip in August 2011, we heard some locals planning a wedding reception at the restaurant. Prices are very reasonable for the portions. A good go-to restaurant in the area that will not break the bank.
I had the best deep fried cod I have ever had at Northern Delights. The pan fried cod I had a few days later was also delicious. The coleslaw is very good, as are the mashed potatoes. I don 't go for the ubiquitous veg canned peas and steamed carrots, but the carrot part was OK. The partridge berry pie had the local bread type crust, but was good. They also have soft serve ice cream cones, hard to find around here. If you need to work up an appetite or work off some calories, take the short hike to Aunt Bride 's Lookout, just down the road across from the Valhalla Inn.
