Grotto Winkelried - Rivera

Well hidden but always full... this should be a sign! Consistently good simple country food, wonderful sausages and more, polenta with everything... excellent selection of cheese. The house wine is ... cheap, so ok.. very friendly service, one of our favorite grotti.

We were there for lunch. The food nor the atmosphere and certainly not the service is worth mentioning. Would not go again for sure.

Perfect. A relatively small and typical grotto among chestnut tress, with a simple menu, very tasty dishes (some not so common like bull or donkey), friendly service and sweet prices. They're not all like this and this one is perfectly recommendable.

Went for a Sunday lunch. SF for two adults and children. no starters, pork ribs with polenta as main and no desserts. drank water only. a disgraceful rip off. avoid.

Not so easy to find, town is Rivera but need to look for Sorencino which is a village, part of the town; the last part to reach this grotto is quite but quite narrowed… if driving a large car I’ll suggest better to park the...car by the church (there are signs that lead to this grotto). The walk to this place is pleasant, but still need to be cautious in this path, as wrote before, the street is very narrowed… A place that could be defined a “grotto”. Surrounded by chestnuts forest, a small construction caved in the mountain, outdoor tables, bocci rink. Small menu mainly grilled ribs, meats and polenta plus classic starters like sliced salami and cheeses. The day we went there was roasted baby goat including a bread cake and coffee) it was well done, devoured in minutes… fresh sliced salami fresh cheeses minestrone served in a bowl with lid, small bottle of local wine Limited choices but fresh and daily produced. Service is OK, not much personel, takes some time. The place is frequented by locals of all types, elderlies, youngers, families to have a drink-chat and maybe a bocci match; fresh local food is served here if a tourist or outsider is interested to experience an authentic gastronomic experience in a typical Ticinese environment.
