Fabulous meal and setting as per Lonely Panet, but it is in Ponte da Braca, not Viana do Castelo, not in the riverside carpark, but walk 100m east to Jardim dos Poetas (garden of the two poets). 27 euro for two including 2 starters, 2 mains, one beer 1 bottle wine!
We love it here and visit as often as possible. Being vegetarian isn't easy in Portugal but Beliao has amazing veggie quiches and lasagnas, as well as delicious soups and desserts. We always take away a few of the choc chip cookies too easily the best you'll find anywhere. In good weather you can sit outside soaking up the stunning riverside views. In winter the woodburner makes it cosy and the atmosphere is always relaxed. Superb service too. Just fantastic and highly recommended.
Dreadful food, seemed like a place where nobody understood what they were doing. Fish wasn’t properly cooked, vegan sausage was inedible, lot of stuff they just didn’t have. Chips were good.
Beliao Ponte da Barca has many restaurants along its beautiful riverside. We stopped at three looking for a good place to have a nice dinner, but were driven away by the music that was so loud we 'd have to converse by texting. (When we go out to eat, we like to talk to one another, not look at our phones! Three of our party of six are professional musicians, two only 30 years old, so we recognize a melody, not just thump-thumping noise!. The final stop of Beliao had barely audible (good, even music, so we decided to stay. Mistake! I guess with the right setting, a restaurant can make a go of it despite poor service and very mediocre food. The waiter, who also appeared to be the cook brought everything out piecemeal, my way under done hamburger (with even colder bun slathered in nearly frozen mayo being first. I was encouraged to eat my food before it turned to stone and was finished before any one else received theirs. My drink was forgotten until I reminded him of my order. It was not like they were overwhelmed with business (maybe that should tipped us off! Probably my worst Portuguese restaurant experience, hopefully so far. Zero Stars if possible!
