Bidrage med feedbackWe booked in advance, and we received a friendly greeting when we arrived. We were taken to our allocated table and given menus. I ordered the Halušky with mushrooms, which was absolutely delicious. So tasty, warming, and substantial. My husband really enjoyed the salmon supreme. We both also had Long Island iced teas, and benefited from the happy hour cocktail price offer. For dessert, I had Bublanina, which was delicious, and my husband had the Slovak fruit dumpling. The service was friendly and efficient, and the restaurant was very clean. We were visiting Oxford, and the meal we had here was one of the highlights of our stay.
A weekend away in Oxford with friends and spend the Saturday evening in this charming restaurant. The staff very friendly and informative concerning the menu. When the food arrived the presentation was amazing, as was the food itself. It is not a large restaurant which made the dining experience very personal. Certainly would go back without hesitation.
I went all the way to Oxford from Reading via train only to experience Slovak cuisine. I was very much looking forward to dining in Moya. In the morning my friend and I phoned the restaurant to book a table. There was no one to answer the call. That was fine. We took a chance and went there at 6pm. We entered Moya and it was almost empty with only two ladies having drinks. We approached the man at the bar and asked if we could walk in. With no smile whatsoever he said we should have left our name and number and they could have phoned us back. We said sorry, we will go if you are fully booked. There was only 1 table with RESERVED on it that night. He took us at the end of the room, in a corner by the toilet. We tended to our coats and hang them on our chairs. He disappeared, but came back with a jug of water. He took our orders, still with no smiles and no conversation. He made us very uncomfortable and unwelcome. He came back with our drinks, put it on the table without saying anything. No coasters for the drinks either. A couple came in. He happily talked to them. He asked them where they want to sit. They sat close to the bar. He took their coats and hang them for them. Served them drinks on a coaster, with a smile and a chat. Our food arrived. Again, serving without saying anything, nor a smile. I had a goulash which I had to season myself. It came with very dry potatoes. I ate it anyway I was hungry. Another young asian couple came in. He sat them at the center of the room, took their coats to hang and chatted with them with a smile. He never came back and asked if we were okay. We then paid the bill and decided to have dessert somewhere else. TERRIBLE FOOD, TERRIBLE SERVICE!!
Met friends in Oxford for a Morse walk we're all foodies and enjoy trying independent restaurants offering cuisine not tried before. And Moya didn't disappoint!! A lovely welcome and a lovely local beer (local to Slovakia, not Oxford! . The boys had the battered tiger prawns and professed them to be lovely, juicy and succulent. The girls had the halusky with sauerkraut which was delicious, sharp and tasty. I was worried it would fill me up as it was a generous portion but it was fine thankfully! For mains the girls had the grilled smoked sausage well presented and not too huge, with gratin potatoes. The boys had duck and stroganoff both described as delicious! One portion of bubble cake for pud and we were done. Full, but not exploding. Everything was reasonably priced (refreshing, these days and service was spot on. Do visit, you won't regret it!!
Based on our friend's recommendation from Australia, we decided to try Moya in Oxford, England. We were pleasantly surprised to find Slavic cuisine in an unexpected location but were not disappointed. The cocktails were expertly crafted, prompting us to order another round. The margaritas were perfect. The food was outstanding. My friend raved about her salmon dish, proclaiming it the best she had ever tasted. My pork shank literally fell off the bone, accompanied by delicious juices. The husband managed the cocktails and front of house while the wife served as the chef, suggesting they may have limited capacity.
