Hacienda Vieja - Oconomowoc

After placing our orders, we got the fresh guacamole, which we enjoyed very much. However, after finishing our entire basket of chips and guacamole, the staff informed us that they were out of the dish we had ordered and asked us to choose something else. They provided menus for us to select a different entrée, but about ten minutes later, they clarified that they actually had enough of our original order after all. Finally, our meals arrived 20 minutes late. We were excited to dig in, but the first bite was cold, and the next was only at room temperature. After trying to get the attention of the waitstaff, we eventually let them know that our food was cold and requested boxes to take our meals home. Even when it came time to settle the bill, we felt like we were waiting forever; we almost thought it might be complimentary since we had been there for over 2 hours. This experience left us feeling underwhelmed, especially given the occasion. We would like to give it another try in the future, hopefully when it’s not so busy and better staffed.

Our waitress was incredibly kind. I had read reviews stating that the service was lacking, but our experience was fantastic. She answered all our questions enthusiastically and made us feel very welcome. The food was just okay for Mexican cuisine; I've had better. However, the stunning view of the lake was amazing.

The waitstaff was friendly, and the food was good, but I thought it was overpriced. Service was quite slow, mainly due to a large party of around 20 people, but given that the restaurant was only half full, that excuse didn’t really hold up. I ordered a special drink that came in a martini glass; the first one was not filled properly, seeming more like a half-serving, and the second drink was even smaller. That felt a bit lacking. The restaurant has great potential with its location, but they really need to work on improving their service and reevaluating their prices for Mexican dishes. The quality of service and atmosphere don’t quite match the high costs. On the bright side, we did enjoy the beautiful view.
