The food must have come straight from the supermarket frozen section and then put in the microwave or came out of a tin and was warmed up. Steak was fatty and virtually inedible and came covered in a brown gloop that was called pepper...sauce' but tasted more like school gravy. Nasty cheap cheese

The restaurant offers very good food for more than reasonable prices. You can have a four courses menu for 17 or 21 euros. And the dishes are nice. The owner is a kind Portuguese man.

We showed up early (730 PM) for dinner on Sunday evening- this was the only place open on Sunday in Montlouis-sur-Loire. The elfin Portuguese fellow behind the bar gestured to his watch and said something like 730!? in French (we're not sure). Our puzzled look...(which was a pretty typical expression for us in France) must have struck a cord with our non-English speaking friend, because he proceeded to seat us in the back of the restaurant and took our order. We requested wine- something local with a lot of Cab Franc in it (he pointed to the red table cloth to be sure.. We ended up having our best meal (and wine) of nearly three weeks travelling in France, and we had the whole place to ourselves for dinner! The food was more or less of the Portuguese variety, and nothing fancy, but excellent nonetheless.
