The Orangery - Midlothian

Such a beautiful hotel and tranquil surroundings. Visited here in June. Would highly recommend a stay here. Will definately be back

The staff is friendly at this restaurant. The breakfast buffet has a wide selection of items, such as eggs, meats, fruits, and pastries.

The restaurant offered buffet-style food which was tasty. I did have one morning where I discovered a hair in my eggs (definitely not mine as mine is short and this was very long). They promptly replaced the dish, but I'm not sure if they made a new batch of eggs or just removed the hair and served the same ones. The staff was always welcoming and helpful.

We arrived on time for our afternoon tea reservation, but it took over 40 minutes for our tea orders to be served. Our food took even longer to arrive. Each tea pot only came with one cup, so we had to request more, but it was hard to get the attention of the waitstaff as there were times when no one was present in the room. We were not provided with milk for our tea and had to ask for it, resulting in another five minutes of waiting. Despite requesting water for the table twice, it was never brought to us. It seems the water glasses on the table were purely for decoration. When we asked one staff member for more tea and water, he agreed but never returned. We had to ask another staff member, which prolonged the wait for our second cups of tea. The food itself was satisfactory, but the scones were on the smaller side.

Afternoon tea was lovely and very nicely presented. Definitely recommend the Pomegranate tea infusion. Breakfast is varied and plentiful. Staff friendly.
