Bidrage med feedbackLocated on Madison Avenue headed towards downtown Memphis i?ve heard a lot about Evelyn and Olive and decided to give it a try. This is a Jamaican restaurant which is my first time eating Caribbean food so definitely kept an open minded of the menu. Upon arriving I walked in it?s just a simple restaurant nothing fancy about it at all. We waited for a good 5 to 7 minutes to be seated due to there was only one hostess which was the bartender and the server. She was really niceoverall. So we decided to order a little bit of everything I received the Caribbean fried chicken which was a 30 minute wait because it was cooked to order with a side of cabbage and a cucumber and tomato salad. My sister got the jerkchicken with the rice and peas and the cabbage. We both split a beef patty as an appetizer. Let?s start off with the appetizer the beef patty it was pretty good I never tasted anything like that I can?t tell you what it taste like but itwas a very interesting taste I wish they had some type of dipping sauce because it became a tad bit dry but overall it was pretty tasty. The Caribbean chicken like I stayed there earlier I waited 30 minutes because it was cooked to orderand I didn?t get anything Caribbean about it it was just fried chicken with light seasoning and it is not the best fried chicken that I?ve ever had. So that was definitely a disappointment the cabbage was amazing it gave me a vegetable stewtype of vibe. it taste so good it has green beans ,Corn and peppers . it was amazing!! taste out of this world. The cucumber and tomato salad it was OK they could have used a tad more of Italian dressing in it but you got what you ask fortomatoes and cucumbers. The other meal we receive was the jerk chicken which was super dry they did not have any sauce on it so it taste OK but it taste like they over cooked it for sure the rice and peas were very tasty they were warm wishthey were hot but you can?t expect hot I guess at this restaurant. Overall experience wa
I visited this restaurant for the first time after a few coworkers mentioned it to me. I ordered curry chicken w rice and cabbage. The music was blasting so loud that the bartender could barely hear me place my order. The menus were worn and needed to be cleaned and replaced. There was one filthy unisex bathroom, and the restaurant overall looks like a painted hut. My plate looked as if it was thrown together. The presentation was poor, and the food tasted mediocre and old. One and done for me...I do not recommend this restaurant. Plus, the staff looked as if they had jumped up out of bed then decided to go to work...#NegativeVibes
It is really hard to find a restaurant that serves good Jamaican cuisine so when I heard of this restaurant, I did not get my hopes up. I prepared myself for mediocre food. I ordered the Jammin Jerk Chicken Sandwich with fries and the Level up Curry Chicken served with coconut rice, steamed cabbage and a fried plantain. Like literally you get 1 piece of fried plantain. Overall, I was impressed with the food. The jerk wrap was so good. My curry chicken dish was good too, my only issue is y'all really gotta do better with serving 1 piece of plantain. I definitely thought they forgot to add more and when I questioned it, I was told they only give 1. If they are going to be stingy with the plantain, at least give 2 pieces. 1 is just a tease.
Omggggggg there's one thing I haven't found since I've been back in the city and that's DELICIOUS Jamaican food!!! EVELYN AND OLIVE....understands the ASSIGNMENT! My goodnessssssss whether it's the hospitality or the food or TRINA theeeeee best bartender in the land, you're in for a daaaaaammnnnn treat!!! I'm usually a jerk-chicken-dark-meat kinda girl so I couldn't decide between the brown stew, jerk, or the curry! I asked Trina and she broke them down by the spice level! I wanted something HOT so I went with the curry chicken, rice and peas and cabbage with a piece of coco bread on the side! No carribean meal is complete without a nice cold Ting (sparkling grapefruit, of course) and I alsoooo got a drink while I waited! T R I N A crafted me an island Jack and mannnnnnnnnnnnnnn! It gave what it needed to GIVE okayyyyy! I made a new family while having dinner tonight after work and I LOVE them already! I love restaurants like thiiisssssss! p.s. here's a little secret ..if you feel like putting on your dancing shoes, E&O turns into a low key dancehall on Saturday nights and goes until 6am! If you want food you'll have to wait on the late night chef, but I hear it's worth it! Memphis, get your butts down here! Thanks-Mgt
BE WARE OF LEAVING A TIP ON TOP OF A MANDATORY TIP THAT THEY REFER TO AS A SERVICE FEE! The food was very good. We both ordered the oxtails and fried green tomatoes. The portion sizes were small when compared to previous experiences at other restaurants. And as a few other customers have mentioned, the ambiance is horrible and the interior can most definitely use some upgrades. We dined in, but I wish we had ordered to go. I will never dine in there again for sure, but may not carry-out either because of mandatory service fee on to-go order. Black can be excellent, but this isn't it. The server never had a smile on her face and was very misleading when asked about the included 15% mandatory service fee stated on the menu. I asked her if the service fee was the same as a gratuity and she stated NO. So I added an additional 15% for her, totalling a combine 30% tip for subpar service. But luckily while exiting, I asked another employee for the purpose of the mandatory service fee, and she advised that it is a tip for the waitress, cook, and bartender (tip). So I asked to be reimbursed of the additional 15% that I included, which they abided.
