I recently got to dine at the Yacht Club as the guest of a member, and it was a treat! If you get the opportunity, definitely head over to this place for the friendly atmosphere, filling food, and picturesque views of the lake. As you might guess from the name, Devil's Lake Yacht Club is the flagship club for Devil's Lake. It's for members and invited guests only, so I felt like a real high roller when I got to go recently! Recently remodeled, I loved that they kept the grand old bar, with the addition of some stylish and comfy barstools for congregating around and chatting with friends. Instead of grabbing a drink that night, we headed over to our table, where a friendly server greeted us and took our orders. This evening it was the fried chicken dinner all around, with the option of white meat, dark meat, or combo. While we waited, we munched on warm rolls and enjoyed the view on the lake. A short time later, our dinners arrived, and it was some of the tastiest fried chicken I've had in a long time. The crust tasted like a mixture of cornflakes and buttermilk, with just the right amount of seasonings. I got some green beans and mashed potatoes on the side, both of which were delicious. Maybe it's my good memories of coming to the lakes as a kid, maybe it was that it was the perfect end to a perfect Sunday, but the dinner at the Devil's Lake Yacht Club hit the spot for me. If you get the opportunity to go there sometime, I hope it does the same for you!
You have to be a member or guest of a member to eat at the club. My family has been members since it opened in the 40's and it has been a very important and memorable part of our summers. Great entertainment on weekends and good food. If your around Devils Lake often then I highly recommend joining. It's a lot of fun!
DLYC is celebrating it's 75th anniversary this summer. My parents had their engagement party on Devil's Lake in 1939. They brought our family here during the summer months from Toledo. Some of my best memories growing up were related to Devil's Lake. The Yacht Club is an extension of those fond memories because the members all have a similar family past. DLYC is the social hub for all ages around the Irish Hills. Great entertainment on weekends and holidays. A new General Manager that aims to please the membership with great food and hospitality started this year. Come join us to start new family memories or renew those from our past.
We won't be renewing our membership for the next year unless much needed management change takes place. We went from spending over $6,000 per year (2013) to below $500 this year. Menu items are often not available. Manager degraded young kid waiter at front of us once. Main course (cold chicken) showed up before appetizers over 45 after the order was placed. Four times we visited the club, were all disastrous. Walked out disappointed once again today. Don't blame the economy and don't take my word for it but instead look at your revenue for the last 2 months to identify the problem. Do the right thing and don't wait until the season is over...
