Bidrage med feedbackRestaurant advertises that it's open until 22.00 every day. Situated beside the river Dordogne next to the pont de vicq, very close to the pont de vicq campsite I used. Had a snack at lunchtime, burger and fries, nice snack and no too pricey, staff...were friendly and attentive, not too difficult as I was the only customer! I assume if the weather was better it would have been busy, also had an excellent evening meal there, had a steak which was good, and some acceptable wine.
This reastraunt is next to the campsite and the river, a nice setting to have lunch. service was good, food was really nice, although no chose for a vegitarian not even fish so the wife had to settle for a plain omlette and chips, my...duck on the other hand was great. drinks at an average price.
After 2 hours of kayaking and swimming down the glorious Dordogne river my husband, 3 children and I stopped here for a drink and a snack. As we didn’t have enough cash to pay for this we asked if we could pay on a card...and were told that the restaurant was closed it was about 4pm but that we could order food from the kiosk and pay by card at the restaurant afterwards. This seemed great, so we ordered 5 Croque Monsieur, to be told by the young girl working in the kiosk that they didn’t have any left, only paninis with ham, so I quite happily ordered 5 paninis instead. She then had to leave the kiosk, walk up to the restaurant, and 5 minutes later came back with a box full of frozen wrapped paninis and 4 Croque Monsieur which she said I could have. By this time the queue was building behind me, it being a sunny and busy day on the river, with people waiting to buy drinks and ice creams. The young girl then started to unwrap the Croque Monsieur, one by one putting them into a microwave, 1 for a minute, 2 for 30 seconds and the last Croque Monsieur she put straight under the grill. At the same time she was roasting the panini, writing my order on a slip of paper in order for me to pay afterwards, and emptying the box of frozen paninis into the freezer and others into a fridge. Then the electric tripped out, and it took her a dozen attempts to get it working again by turning off all the electric points in the kiosk until it allowed her to turn it back on again. She then took an order for an ice cream behind me, neither of which she had in stock, and the lady had to go for an alternative, which was a limited choice of chocolate coated ice creams, no fruity ice cream or lollies. The electric tripped off for a second time. Approximately 20 minutes later she gave me my panini and 4 Croque Monsieur. My husband was ravenous having not eaten since breakfast we had eaten 8 hours earlier before driving to the Dordogne from the South of France, and so quickly ate his Croque Monsieur. My son was happy with his panini. However, my 14 year old daughter, 8 year old son and I took a few small bites of our Croque Monsieur before discarding them as disgusting. The cheese had melted into the soggy still half frozen bread making it one big gloopy soft cold sandwich. We too were all hungry having not eaten in 8 hours and I was not happy with paying the 5 or 6 Euros they were charging for each Croque Monsieur. A waitress came out to collect our plates and asked us how everything was, to which I apologies and said the Croque Monsieur were not very nice. She said she would get the manager. The manager came out and rather abrusquely asked what was the matter, to which I apologied but said the Croque Monsieur were soft and not very nice. He then lunged forwards, jammed his finger multiple times in to my not even half eaten Croque Monsieur and said ‘doux?! Doux?!’ followed by lots of shouting and ranting not a lot of which I understood. He then snatched the paper with my order written on it out of my hand and beckoned for me to go inside the empty restaurant to pay. My husband accompanied me fearful for what might happen and we quietly followed the manager in not wanting to escalate the situation. The manager was still shouting and ranting, telling me the Croque Monsieur were not bad and that they had come in fresh this morning at 8.30. He handed the paper to the waitress behind the bar and she added up the cost of drinks and food, and handed it back to me. I had expected they would not charge me for the Croque Monsieur and that’s why they were angry but they charged us for everything. I looked surprised and showed my husband, and my husband said not to worry, we would just pay but put a review on trip advisor. At this point, both the manager and the waitress completly lost their temper, snatching my card, looking at my name and saying they would remember my name and put a bad review of me on trip advisor! The waitress said that I would no longer have a job because of her review. I said that I don’t have my own business so it didn’t matter what she wrote about me. We then left with our three stunned children who had been waiting outside and been witness to all this commotion. As we got down the steps two British ladies had been walking towards the restaurant and had hesitated after hearing the shouting, so we calmly advised them not to go in there, at which point the restaurant manager stormed down the steps holding his phone up in front of my face and taking a photo of me, shouting and ranting as he did so. We left feeling shell shocked. We had not been rude, had hesitantly told them the Croque Monsieur were not very nice, had been shouted out and threatened and made to pay in full. At all costs steer clear of this dreadful place. Take a picnic and plenty of drink, and make the most of what should be one of the most pleasurable and enjoyable trips you could ever have.
I can recommend this restaurant for its location but also for its service. It serves cafeteria food which is well prepared and served friendly. Nice place to have lunch a long the river.
We stopped for lunch while the cannaeus went down, and spent 30 minutes waiting for someone to take our order and another 45 waiting for the start of the menu de jour. the couple that served us was completely inadequate, with the old guy above all. unfriendly. we wish we had a picnic with us. such a waste of the beautiful location.
