Bidrage med feedbackThe food was really really tasty. Cooked fresh to order.. So it took a bit longer and we were forewarned by the chef so all good. The food we had today gave us as much enjoyment as the food we had at Rick Stein's in Padstow a year or two back. Couldn't fault it. 5 very happy people!
We booked this pub for a one night stay, as it was only an hour away from home. The pub is comfortable, with fireplaces that I’m sure are well used in winter. It’s obviously a well used local pub, with lots of friendly locals. Our room was spotlessly clean and comfortable, with tea and coffee making facilities available. The landlord and landlady were lovely, making us feel at home. We booked a table for an evening meal, which was absolutely delicious, cooked by the landlady. The pub was busy all Saturday evening with diners, and it was easy to see why. The food was fantastic value… I had the fish, chips and mushy peas (best ever!! and my husband had the slow cooked lamb rump with fresh vegetables, which he said was amazing. In the morning, the breakfast was just as nice, with cereals, orange juice, full English breakfast and toast. We had a lovely stay here, and would definitely recommend you give it a try.
Very strange as being unfamiliar with the area we pulled into car park. Pub was open with sign outside saying good food served. Inside there was a table with a small party eating. Nobody at bar or in the bar but a man sat in lounge who told us he couldn’t accommodate us 3 as they had the table in to serve?? Thought that was odd but my poor review is attributed to the fact we asked him if he knew of anywhere local we could get served. He just said we could drive into carnforth and find something, however literally yards away on the left hand side there was another pub The Malt Shovel that WAS serving food. Because of the strange attitude of this pub we tentatively asked if we could come in and if they were serving food which amused the owner who said “of course, it’s a pub”. When we explained we had been turned away from the one up road he understood. Perhaps Mr whoever you were you could have been more helpful and/or closed your doors if you didn’t want more than 10 customers? Would have saved us stopping and parking up!
We stayed here overnight and had dinner before we retired for the night . The room was very clean and the bathroom was huge . Everything we needed, the bed comfortable, and clean. For dinner we both chose steak pie with chips, and this came with peas, carrots and Savoy cabbage. The food was piping hot and delicious . The decor seems a little old fashioned and tired but apart from that we have no hesitation in recommend this little gem of a place .
I stayed here as a stopping off spot close to the M6 which it was but a world away from a busy motorway. Quite pretty village. Welcoming pub, spotless, if straightforward, room, cheerful bar, good food, good beer. All very positive. Good value and exactly what I was looking for. Will return.
