Honsan Sushi Grill - Laguna Niguel

Came here for dinner with my partner as we live nearby and wanted to try another sushi restaurant.The service was amazing, our waiter was great and very responsive. And given the good reviews we were hopeful to have a new regular spot!As soon as we tasted the Ikura nigiri, we literally had to spit it out. It tasted rancid. Okay, we thought, maybe just a fluke, things happen. Then we get the remainder of our rolls and all of the fish tasted quite off, with even a few slices having a bit of a grey color to them. It made for a super unpleasant experience, and we ended up not eating much of what we ordered, as we were worried about freshness.I’m really hoping this was just a one-off thing given the other positive reviews, but wanted to share.

Went for a lunch date with my son. It's a small place and the sushi is amazing. It's was so good. The specialty rolls are amazing. My son has an allergy to shrimp and they overheard us and offerd to make the roll we were looking at with no shrimp. We will definitely be back.

I cannot recommend Honsan Sushi enough! They use all wild caught fish, get constant fresh seafood, and are always busy! It’s very small on the inside but the tickets for to-go orders are miles long! It is a family owned restaurant and they take pride in all they do. I’m happy to support this family and always crave their sushi rolls— they really are the BEST around!

The fish was good quality and preparation seemed great.The young man behind the counter sat down and was on his phone and not checking on our table, then delivered our Nigiri with a hair on it.We brought this to his attention and he took it off the bill. However with the amount of people working there both front and back of the small restaurant we would have thought he could have eyeballed our food and have them make another before bringing it out.A bit pricey for a strip mall. And they do not serve beer even though there is a Kirin flag in the window.

New to me but I'm so glad I found them. Super fresh, awesome service, small but mighty! Don't miss this place!Parking: Easy peasy
