I'm a huge Rancho San Eric fan: so, expect nothing but superlatives for this chef, their tables, the cuisine and total experience. I've been eating here for 5 years -- it's the best Manhattan or LA or Chicago has to offer -- the very best -- aside the Caribbean in Tulum at the hands of an exceptional food artist. Don't miss it!
Exceptional service & attention to explaining the composition of the menu. Food well presented & beautifully cooked. Paired with good [& good value] Mexican wine. All this whilst sitting outside on a warm evening under the stars - shame we were travelling back to the UK next day!
We happened upon Hechizo during one of our beach walks while staying in Tulum and decided to visit the next evening.I was blown away by the high quality of the food, wine and service. On our first visit we began with a white truffle pasta prepared by the very talented Chef Stefan. Intensely flavoured it left us wanting much more! He initially came to our table and discussed the menu in great detail, overcoming our reluctance to try a Mexican wine. I'm so glad he did because the wine he recommended was gloriously full flavoured and brimming with character. My Angus beef fillet with seared foie gras in mashed potatoes was startlingly tasty and I'm so glad I had room for a dessert freshly prepared by the co-owner of the resturant. We loved Hechizo so much we returned again when I had the pleasure of enjoying perfectly cooked scallops followed by prawns with a pork skin coating on lightly sautéed watercress with guacamole. Yes, it tasted as good as it sounds.Hechizo is an oasis of calm in a very busy and bustling part of Tulum's beach hotel zone. The waiters provided attentive and faultless service. The ambience is perfect and if you want a quiet romantic dinner I would highly recommend trying this fabulous restaurant. It also has ample car parking which is a rarity amongst restaurants in this area.
We saw Hechizo's menu as we were walking on the beach. In Tulum, it's better to have low expectations for the cuisine but in this case, we were stunned by the high quality and beautiful atmosphere. Chef Stefan clearly puts artistry, care, and imagination into each dish. We began with a white truffle tagliatelli that smelled almost too intoxicating to eat, but eat we did, and wow, we were blown away. The truffle flavor was neither overpowering (as it's often served these days) nor underdone, sublimely served with just the right amount of velvety sauce. It was perfection! As our mains, my partner ordered a filet of Angus beef that was as tender and juicy as any we've ever tasted, and I had jumbo shrimp encrusted in pork skin and served over a delicately spiced green sauce with guacamole and slightly steamed watercress at the center. Just amazing!! Chef Stefan recommended a Mexican red wine blend, which was a perfect accompaniment. Desserts are a house specialty so do save room. With a sea-front setting and a gorgeous, open bar and dining area, Hechizo is not only a don't miss in Tulum, it's worth driving to Tulum for the dining experience.
