Mala Kuhinja - Kranjceviceva

Really nice cosy atmosphere, excellent service, and even better food. Mala kuhinja was recommended to me, so I expected qality, but still I was pleasantly surprised. Warm recommendation! ????

I made reservations for the sister restaurant about a week in advance. It was for a special occasion, and they suggested they might arrange something for that occasion. Though they didn't deliver on that vague promise. I honestly don't hold it against them too much. In general, I don't regret going, though I also don't think this restaurant was exceptional. The restaurant's architecture is its most impressive feature. Charming old brickwork is framed by black steel beams and modern wood accents. I'm no expert, but I enjoyed looking around. The music was odd for a restaurant aspiring to be more upscale than middle school, playing slightly-loud pop music from a local radio station. Our waiter was polite and attentive, which is unusually good for Bosnia. On the other hand, he twice asked what we'd like to eat without offering a menu and then asked what we'd like to eat as he was handing the menus to us. Maybe he was nervous. The food, which claims an interesting Asian-Bosnian fusion theme, wasn't particularly well executed, though it wasn't bad. I tried the Mediterranean Chicken Salad. The chicken was probably left too long in a sugary sauce, creating an odd, sesame-covered shell. The lettuce was limp, and I'm still not sure what made the dish Mediterranean. Still, it wasn't terrible. My dining companion enjoyed some mixed vegetables with steak and potatoes. It wasn't particularly interesting, but it was good, so they have that going for them. This place has a bunch of potential. For the price, you can definitely get better food, but if they survive another few months, I might return to see if they can deliver on the interesting founding ideas. Iron out some of the details, and this could be very cool for special occasions. For now, however, it's a disappointment.
