In the middle of the prominent Bermuda triangle between the beach bath Hörnle, Lake Constance and Lake Constance Stadium is the forest house Jakob – but rather hidden in the middle of old trees and on the edge of the constancy city forest. From the side of the lake you have to look very closely (I have tested it extra on my last cruise... to discover the building with beer garden. The listed and completely renovated house in 2006 is a former seminar hotel of the Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung and now houses both a stylish hotel and a spacious restaurant including bistro. The Waldhaus Jakob can be easily reached by bus no. 5 from the train station or from the star square Konstanz; free parking is available for drivers. Walkers and cyclists will feel welcome anyway, the lake and the waterway is only an estimated 200 meters away. I was already a guest here in winter 2012/2013 and remember the bright, generously glazed guestroom in the style of a conservatory. And facing the unexpected view of Lake Constance and the Swiss bank. In this grandiose late summer of 2018 (which is actually already autumn I meet again with some friends to celebrate a farewell. Since there is still a lukewarm ventilator above the lake in the evening, we decide to take a seat outside the beer garden. Here one sits comfortably on pseudo-rattan furniture on fourer tables; Wood bowls pave the way on the stoney terrace with pebbles. The youthful service is on Zack: well-launted, reliable, multilingual parlifying. This is also necessary with increasing foreign guests and tourists. Our group is kindly serviced, even special requests and questions are not dismissed. Unfortunately, there is only one special menu in the beer garden, which is mainly based on flame cake and pizza. But this in numerous variations, so that both Carnivores and Vegis have a great choice. There is also a wide range of drinks: beers, wines, longdrinks, soft drinks, aperitive, digestive both regional and international couleur. The friends are all thrilling to eat flashcakes, but my accompaniment and I have already fed to the evening elsewhere, so that we choose from the drinks menu. The Lillet Wild Berry (6.80 Euro) is, however, a bit pale and fade in the local interpretation. Instead of the originally planned forest berries, this is where variegated cherries are used (possibly from the freezer? . Still very refreshing and tingling. As a presumably in-house creation, the Martini Lake Constance (6.90 euros, consisting of Martini, Blue Curacao and some secret ingredients. Pretty color, ice-cooled and more alcoholic when you think so at the first moment. The red/sauer wine choir is mixed with a strong Spanish tempranillo on request instead of the often usual Baden Spätburgunder. All drinks are served individually and very well in special glasses. Mobility restricted guests will appreciate the ramp for access to the house, also the comfortable wooden bowls in the beer garden. For example, in the Waldhaus Jakob also patients of a nearby rehabilitation clinic are welcome, with a roller shutter, wheelchair or crutches. I did not complete the interiors of the restaurant during this visit. I like a charming, elegant mix of historically inspired details and modern elements. Worth mentioning, I still find a stable, free guest shop, which is worth gold in the crisp situation on the lake (the Swiss network wants to push itself up constantly. In the upper floors of the building there are about 30 quiet, friendly and modern rooms, which are often fully booked. Friends who have stayed here had to book 2-3 months in advance. Conclusion: stylish excursion destination with beautiful beer garden and unexpected lake view. The hotel rooms would also delight me. Stands on the wishlist for the next summer.

Since we were at the Waldhaus Jakob Hotel, we came 2 times to the Waldhaus Jakob Restaurant and we had the opportunity to taste several dishes... and they were all great! The garlic Gambas, pizza, steaks, fish and vegetarian dishes, all very well prepared and beautifully served. The only problem we had both was our table reservation because we were a party of six, they could never put us directly, although we were always on time! There were always other guests sitting on our table who either had to be moved or they had to prepare another table in another part of the terrace for us.
A group of us attended a reception here for a friends weddong. Wine, beer and food were all good. Staff friendly and attentive. Good views over the lake and clean tidy facilities.
We ended up eating in the Hotel restaurant as we didn't want to go back out in the rain. Its was a pleasant surprise. Had a great beer at the bar then 3 course of great Italian food with friendly polite and enjoyable service.
