Montparnasse Cafe

I had a horrible dining experience at this restaurant due to the poor service. The staff seemed scared of the loud owner who openly criticized them in front of guests. The owner was overly friendly to customers, but not to her employees. I was particularly taken aback when she loudly called a staff member stupid for mixing up a coffee order. I couldn't wait to leave.

The owner can be a bit abrupt and the service can be slow, but it adds to the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. The ambiance is delightful. The mushroom croissant was tasty, but the cafe latte could use some improvement.

I have been a patron of this café for almost a decade, and the previous owners and staff were exceptional - friendly, welcoming, kind, with a great menu and always willing to accommodate. However, the new staff are slow, impolite, and unpleasant. I have visited twice recently; the first time, the dark-haired woman appeared to be hungover and uninterested, rolling her eyes and disregarding my takeout order. When I got home, I found that my £20 order was completely incorrect and tasted awful. On my second visit, the service was slightly better but still made me feel like a bother in an empty café. I received one small piece of bread with two undercooked eggs and reheated bacon that hardly resembled meat, all for £15. Another customer outside ordered the same dish and received twice the portion. It seems like there is discrimination happening here. It is disappointing as the café used to be wonderful. The only solace is the kind gentleman who works there.

We went several times during our last trip to London. Very good pastries and coffees. After a couple days the staff remembered us. I really enjoyed the pancakes with crème fraiche and blueberries.

This independent cafe breaks the mould. It has a heart, a warmth that other cafes cannot replicate. it is run by the formidable Meriem Laidi who sets the cafe's tone she's welcoming, kind and big hearted. Children and dogs are welcome indeed, everyone is greeted as a friend (old, young, those in love). The food, prepared by the hard working Ali, is wide ranging omelettes, croissants, pastries,; all washed down with coffee, tea or freshly squeezed orange juice. What I love about it is that Meriem treats everyone as an equal. You cant' help falling in love with her and Montparnasse. Hugely recommended.
