Manzi's Restaurant - Idar-Oberstein

This is the best restaurant in Idar-Oberstein! We've visited 5 times and everyone was just as great. The grilled lamb aprons (spiesbread) are to die. The service is excellent. Again, just the best.

Idar-Oberstein is not a city blessed with upscale restaurants. Locals usually prefer cheaper, rustic fare, and tourists are looking for local specialty, spies roast. So no easy place to taste for a gourmet restaurant. So we wish Signore Manzi good luck. He worked in Michelin star restaurants and it shows. This is not only good, above-average food. All we had was very nice and a little twisted, making the difference. The ambience of the restaurant is quite classic. Service is decent, but with space to improve. Many locals find food too expensive. But I'm honest. Food is quite expensive for what is served. over, wines are not too marked. So if you are looking for raised food at Michelin-Star level in the larger Idar-Oberstein area, Manzis is your only choice, though a good one.

The room is quite lovely, the waitstaff superb, unfortunately the food not so much. My main course had inedible salty, oily old fish and over rosemaryed polenta. The veg beneath the fish looked used . Such a shame, I spent the meal thinking, What would Gordon do? !...I decided it wasn 't my problem but I don 't want it to be yours either!

My wife and I recently spent a week at this hotel, it was a most pleasant stay. A couple of years ago it went through a bit of a bad patch but it is now under new management. They have made a considerable investment in...upgrading the fittings and staff training and it is now back to its old standard as a top class hotel. The rooms are comfortable and nicely appointed, the chef really knows his business and most of the helpful and well informed staff speak English, or at least enough to get by with anyone who has a few words of German (one of the problems can be their desire to practice their accent on a native English speaker). Should one not desire to go the whole hog of dinner in the restaurant there is the alternative of the Bistro, which is the bar area serving simpler, but no less good, meals. If you are looking for a hotel in this most attractive area of Germany, you could not go far wrong with a stay here.
