We visit the area at least twice a year and always eat the local specialty at least twice while there. Always looking for new places and always check with the locals for where to find the best Spiessbraten. Flugplatz restaurant, for many years now, always...comes up as the best place. On our latest trip to the area, we tried another restaurant and were disappointed. Six of us then went to the Flugplatz and everyone of our Spiessbratens were excellent.

Very good restaurant, not fancy more of the rural authentic style. Very good meat made over the typical local fireplace. Nice family personal. One of the best Spießbraten in the city.

This resturant is very good and you can not beat the view. It is also fun to see the planes take off and land.

As a native of Idar-Oberstein I have been enjoying Speissbraten my whole live, and this is one of the best I've ever had. Not to be missed. You can substitute the traditional horse reddish for a mixed salad, which is a good choice. Two child...dishes available, either fish or chicken with chips, salad and ice cream. All very reasonably priced. Make sure to have a reservation if you come at the weekend. If the weather is nice you can sit outside and enjoy the view. Small playground located outside as well.
