Bidrage med feedbackGood coffee, lovely staff, really enjoyed the dessert. Did not love changing my 4 month old on the bathroom floor, a change station would be most welcome.
First visit was for dinner and food was cold, tough to eat, not fresh and microwaved. Second visit was for drinks and it was OK. Third visit was for drinks and apps and it was yet again disappointing. Most of it was deep fried too much so that it made the food overly crispy and tasteless. I will not be giving it another chance, even though I really wanted to like it and to have somewhere close to go for drinks and food. I was mainly surprised that they would microwave their food. The kitchen is open so the guests can see the preparation of their meals and I was shocked to see that the microwave was used.Hillsburgh really needs a nice, friendly, and yummy local spot that would also stay open a bit later than 8pm.
My husband and I went to The Friendly Chef for Mother's Day lunch. We reserved for 1:00. When we got there it was packed but we were seated immediately. We found out from our waitress that Sunday brunch was just winding down. We could order something from that menu or we would have to wait a little bit for items on the other menu. We opted to wait. The brunch meals being served looked amazing. Waffles, eggs etc. and plenty of it. The restaurant is nice and decorated very eclectic/cozy. I overheard the owner telling a customer that she is adding to the decor as she finds items she likes. Our table had a rose centerpiece that smelled amazing. Our waitress was a very friendly and helpful young lady. She had a very pleasant personality. She attended out table every once in a while to check up on us. We waited about an hour for our meal. We ordered two different sandwiches so that we could share and sample two items on the menu. One was grilled vegetable wrap with fries and the other was ham/cheese on a Panini with fries. The fries were really good. The sandwiches were a fail. The tortilla wrap was cold with very little veggie filling. I would have preferred it to be warm. The ham/cheese Panini was the same. The top of the bun was cool and the bottom was cold. There was a lot in the sandwich but, again I would have preferred it to be warm with the cheese melted. I am guessing that the meal was prepared quickly because we had been waiting so long. Our waitress was very enthusiastic about the desserts and talked us into taking two home. We were glad we did. We took home mudslide brownies and a lemon meringue tart. They were delicious. Because of our timing on this visit, I will definitely give this place another try. I would love to try one of their hamburgers. Our waitress suggested when we come back to have the onion rings. She said they are very special but was very coy and would not tell us why. She said we would have to come back to find out. LOL. Watch for my return review.
We have been to the friendly Chef a few times since chef Pam has Opened, the food is always great. we have tried many different dishes and enjoyed them all especially the burgers. we have also attended the Mexican night the magic and martinis night and were very happy with the food and the entertainment, it is nice to sit and relax and not be rushed to eat.
Stopped by this restaurant while traveling and wanted to grab something quick. I was pleasantly surprised by the offerinsg of this small restaurant. I ordered a few items from the menu. Most notable was the burger, probably one of the best I've had. Presentation was unique as it was served on a piece of wood. While enjoying my meal, the chef/owner came out to see if everything was to my liking. All in all, this is a restaurant that I will return to the next time I'm in the area! Thank you for a great first experience!
