Bidrage med feedbackI always wanted to try Kansas BBQ and this place was recommended. I appreciated that they had various types of BBQ sauce from Kansas to Texas to Carolina. We were there at lunch and wasn't super busy so service was good. I got the burnt end Mac and cheese but before it came out we were served pork rinds. That gave me a Chance to try the different sauces before the food came. Now i can't say it's better than Texas BBQ but it was good. The place was nice and the bathroom was clean.
I wish somewhere on Google it would say that this place is not always opened. After reading their web page it says that they close the doors after they run out of food. I 'm on a long drive and I wanted to hit up a local place to get some barbecue so this is what I decided. I arrived and the place is totally empty and doors are locked. I checked the hours but didn 't think to call ahead I guess maybe it 's on me. I 'm giving it a three-star review for the benefit of the doubt I 'm just bummed I can 't eat here. Just a suggestion but maybe put on the front door where your hours are we close when we run out of food
My family of 5 drove 11 hours. Saw many bbq billboards on the way to Hays, Kansas. After checking in to our hotel, we found Big Smoke BBQ online. It was the bbq place with the most stars and best reviews. So decided to go with them. Our order was delivery. The online ordering was very easy. While waiting for the order to arrive we got a call from the delivery driver that they were out of lemonade and kids chicken nuggets and asked what I would like to replace them with. I tried to choose the more basic things in the kids menu as my kids are picky eaters. We got smokies and chicken slider. And exchanged lemonade for milk. I appraised our delivery driver for calling and letting me know about the unavailable items. (We were all appreciate and even more so looking forward to the meal-because that seemed like amazing CUSTOMER SERVICE right off the bat Upon delivery was where it went down hill. There was no cutlery (not such a big deal...were hungry it's bbq, we were willing to get down on it. It was the food itself. Sooooo disappointing!!!! We were missing a half rack of ribs. Mac and cheese was bland. The kids chicken slider was laughable not only was it unappealing to the eye but the meat was so dry that it siphoned any saliva we may have had. The other meats seemed like the end of the day left over meats. Edge trimmings with flavor but almost too hard to eat. Burnt ends is definitely what we got! And not the edible ones. My mother ordered a pulled pork sandwhich. It was one big chunk of fat. Yuck. Milk was warm and after looking forward to the meal and paying a good amount for the meal plus delivery fee and a good tip...it was just BAD. They could have thrown in sauce or something to cover up the disgraceful food that was delivered atleast. After all said and done. 5 out of 5 people agreed that it was foul. We are not Karen's. We know bbq. We were starving and tired. So at that point you would think we would eat it anyway. Nope. Because it was that bad. Called to ask if I could physically bring them the food and show them the fat piece and the end of day meat that we got. Whoever answered said he would call the manager. I gave him my number and never received a response. Total bummer all around.
My wife and I prefer BBQ places when we travel because of the ease of dining quickly and usually good food. Blue Smoke was a perfect example of both. We usually order the meat only options and here we ordered the brisket and ribs. Both were exceptional; naturally smoked flavor, tender and juicy. The staff was very good, making sure we got the cuts we wanted and the prices were very reasonable. Blue Smoke was one of the top places we visited.
The place was quite dirty upon arrival. There were some dead bugs on the floor too. There were no other customers there the entire time, so there was no excuse for how filthy it was. The waitress was new and inexperienced. Several things we ordered were unavailable because they were ruined in the freezer. There was a hint of mold on one of the buns, and on another, the meat was very dry. The only positive thing I can say is that the prices were cheap.
