Fairwinds - Halifax

Absolutely the worst place I stayed in. Dont make mistake like i did..read reviews before staying! Musty rooms very out dated and disgusting and im not one to complain. Stay at the marmalade 10 mins away to save you the grief. Fairwinds Should not be in business for the condition the rooms are in!! Owner had hands all over food also will be calling and reporting.

Ok...I'll start with the good...it was great that I could book 4 rooms with 2 beds each for the 8 of us grown men riding motorcycles through Nova Scotia. The price was reasonable. The breakfast in the restaurant was pretty good. The owner (83 years old! and staff were friendly. The location...right on the water... is very nice. Its located next to an Irving gas station. Now for the very bad...this motel is very poorly maintained and needs SO MUCH work! The rooms were in terrible condition (paint peeling and obvious water damage to the ceilings . Mismatched, poor quality bedding. Antiquated furniture. Worst of all...during one of the hottest times in the summer NONE of the rooms had any A/C! That is unacceptable in this day and age! There was a TV literally thrown out of a room and lying on the parking lot all day. I took a walk around the backside (along the water and noticed a basement level to the motel that had NO door or window installed so basically a basement level totally exposed to the elements (can you say mold and rodents! . As mentioned by others, if you arrive after 7 PM or so...you may be on a hunt to get your room keys...no one is manning the front desk!!!! Luckily for us...one of the staff lives in an apartment at the back of the motel and she got us our keys (and even offered to re-open the kitchen to feed us if we were hungry which was indeed very gracious . Unfortunately, I just can't recommend this motel as a decent place to stay.

The food was good, the waitress great. But for some reason the owner decided to spout off all kinds of racial B.S. which was not at all called for or appreciated. I will never grace his doors again.

The worst meal ever! I went back today with family, a group.of nine because we were there 3yrs ago and the fish and chips were great. Not the case today! Every fried meal...fish and chips and two seafood platters were disgusting! Clams served like a blob of soggy grease. I told the waitress there is something wrong with your fryer. She said oh, thanks for the heads up. Lol No problem charging us. Not a word of apology...never shall I return there. How can this happen in NS...

We had a wonderful experience. The owner and staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a good experience. The owner, Ralph, is 83 and sat with us many time having a chat. The restaurant has delicious food at a reasonable cost. Would 100% recommend this place. Great experience from check in until we left.
