Awesome meal and service great restaurant clean and sparkling alovely birthday treat will be back
I have been here twice with a friend for dinner, on both occasions the meal was absolutely delicous. If you are planning on coming here to eat you simply must try the truffle loaded fries they are very moreish as are the tacos, They also make delicous cocktails. It is definitely my favorite eating place in Sumner. Val Smith.

Definitely a mixed bag. Great location, awesome staff, superb drinks list but unfortunately all of those things weren’t what drove us out, we went for food. I feel terrible complaining too much as we in the end didn’t pay for one main. But I feel that it I seems like it’s a consistent problem. We were torn about eating to start with as the prices were very steep and at $38-45 for a main, it would have been nice to know in advance what we were getting in for. The market fish, while cooked perfectly, was minuscule for the price. The main dishes were smaller than the other dishes, and mainly padded out with inexpensive and poorly seasoned ingredients. The corn puree on the market fish was so sweet it was inedible. The “edamame” and “fried curry leaves” were non existent save for 4-6 scattered amongst charred corn and a tomato salsa. My partner got the prawn pasta and stumped up an extra $6 for 4 pieces of chorizo to go with his 5 prawns. It was mainly store bought spaghetti. The food presentation was divine, but if it’s inedible, there’s very little point serving food that only looks good. We didn’t finish either meal in the end. That said, the staff were incredible, and it is a really superb spot with a wonderful atmosphere. There’s a great drink list, so it seems like you’d be hard pushed to be dissatisfied if you just stick to the drinks list! I can understand we are in a particularly tough time, however, pick your specialty, do it well and if something is the “main” then that ingredient is the feature on the plate. While we frequently head to Sumner, we won’t be rushing back for food to the Sumner Social. Price per person: NZ$40–50 Food: 2 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
