Gilbert's Fine Food - Dunedin

Have tried this bakery multiple times to give a fair review. Unfortunately, fifty percent of the time the bread is undercooked in the middle (big no no), and the pastries are heavy, damp, and stodgy. I don’t think Gilbert is a very good baker. Also, quite annoying how prices and names are not posted on items. The two stars are for the very friendly young ladies behind the till.

Zero stars. I demand a refund. This was the worst pie I have ever had. The lack of customers and menu options should have been a warning. The pastry was decent, but the Beef Cheek pie had minimal meat. One of the three pieces of carrot was bigger than any shred of meat I could find. The gravy was tasteless and had a snot-like consistency. The filling was barely half full. I wouldn't even give this to my dog or my starving homeless ex.

I left without making a purchase because the woman working at the counter had a very hostile and unpleasant demeanor.

This restaurant serves the best bagels in the city, especially the smoked salmon and cream cheese filled ones with capers which are outstanding. They also offer a variety of other delicious baked goods and good coffee in a simple and cozy front room. If you're craving some bakery treats, this is a great option.

Had a fantastic experience ordering a gift basket from Gilbert's. The customer service was beyond excellent. There's a great range of foods goods to choose from. 100% check these guys out!
