Trattoria Crottone - DONGO

Our evening here was an interesting experience. Crottone was one of several 'crotti ' near the hamlet of Vanzonico where we were staying. These are very basic restaurants very popular with the locals and mainly open just in the summer. Crottone is the only one open all year but it isn 't open every day so check the sign at the end of the path. The people there were lovely and spoke English. There was no printed menu and limited choice but what we had was very good although not very hot. The gnocchi were a bit filling but the pizzocheri was delicious. Cakes for dessert were interesting but the cheese was a bit strong for us and not to our taste. The only wine available was their house wine in carafes but it was perfectly ok. Overall very cheap.
