Goldener Engel - Deggendorf

We were staying nearby at the Schloss Egg and decided to drive to Deggendorf for dinner. After a brief walk through the central pedestrian only downtown core, we settled on this lovely little restaurant, Goldener Engel (Golden Angel). The menu was only in German, and the staff spoke very little English and my German is sub-par, but we were able to communicate enough to ask the waiter to bring us some traditional Bavarian dishes that he recommended. After we sipped some local red wine and a nice local Moos Ale, our waiter presented us with a hearty portion of Schnitzel Bratkartoffeln and some very tasty Bratwurst. We had a great meal and it was incredibly tasty and savoury. The total for our meal was 28.70 Euro. You'll definitely want to check out this place if you are looking for traditional Bavarian food in Deggendorf.

Whether you need a restaurant for business meals, or a great meal between friends, when in Deggendorf this is the place to come to! The food is to a high quality, with many local dishes and a good variety. The prices are extremely reasonable. The restaurant is situated right in the centre of Deggendorf, allowing easy access. During the summer, try the outside terrasse, highly recommended!

I found this place by chance. It was my first night ever in Germany; a business trip brought me to Deggendorf for a much too short stay. The Stadtplatz seemed like a good place to start, and I chose the Goldener Engel because it looked good Not speaking German myself, my waitress was wonderful by speaking English as well as she could (she knew enough and pantomimed the rest! , and then found a menu for me translated into English. She was able to recommend traditional fare I 'd like and special beer. Her help was perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed everything. Food was hot, beautifully presented, plentiful and delicious. (I had a venison platter. The special cloudy Arcobrau was so good I had to have another. A gentleman who had lingered at a table nearby with his friends came over and, in broken English, introduced himself and welcomed me to Deggendorf. I left after I, too, had lingered to soak in the ambiance. I left satisfied, full, happy and glad to have made unexpectedly made new friends. I may never have a chance to return to this part of the world, but I hope I do. I promise to enjoy another meal at the Goldener Engel if I can and hope this review might encourage someone else to give it a try.
