Gliffaes Country House - CRICKHOWELL

This place used to be wonderful. The views and gardens still are! We have been coming here for the last 10 years and have many important happy memories attached to it. It is now closing and having visited recently for one last time before closure, I understand why- they can’t cope anymore. They are unable to maintain the high standards they once used to have. The hotel is dated- it needs a massive revamp from painting the walls, which are cracked and have humidity stains to replacing the bathrooms which have mould around the bathtub etc. It simply does not look like a boutique country house anymore, although it charges the prices for it. The quality of the food and cooking has also dropped massively- dinners still want to be ‘fine dining’ but the food is tasteless at best. The service is poor- many staff try to do their best but they simply cannot deliver. The housekeeping is poor- they do a very superficial job of cleaning the rooms. As sad as I am to say this- it is probably for the best that Gliffaes closes. If it is to remain a hotel under new ownership- hopefully it will get the revamp it deserves.
