Set in the timeless square and overlooked by the towering cathedral... it offers traditional cuisine with the perfect Alastian blend. Yvonne is the perfect host... speaking French and German but more than accommodating including an English menu... she ensured a wonderful experience.... food was deliceux... and the hand picked selection of local wines was the perfect way to end the evening. Walking home through the cobbled streets after the meal... we shared a glimpse and a feeling of what this district of France must have been like... many years ago. If you're in Colmar... you simply must dine here!
Extraordinary an excellent as always. Each time we are in Colmar we are having lunch at le Marche. We like the style of the restaurant and the excellent cuisine. It is a creative mix of traditional alsacian cuisine with modern trends. The Baeckeoffe is excellent as well as the St. Jaques. As Starter we had snakes in an incredible delicious truffled sauce. Many offered Wines are from the wineyard Schwach, the Cremant is excellent. All in all a place to go and definitely to be recommended. Enjoy !
It is hard not to eat well while in Colmar as the little town is packed with very good restaurants, many of them listed in Michelin and Gault&Millau guides, but it might be hard to find a non-touristic place where you can find other dishes than the traditional Alsacian ones that you get in most restaurants in Colmar. Restaurant du Marche is a family run business, it’s mostly frequenented by locals and it’s the perfect option if you are looking for more exquisite dishes in a place that is not so commercial. The interior of the restaurant is very nicely decorated, with classic details, and it’s very cozy. The food is inspired from the classic French cuisine and everything that we tried (foie gras for starter and beef steak with mushroom sauce for main) was excellent. Actually, the steak was one of the best I have ever had. Last but not least, the service was very good, with a very charismatic lady that was our host and who took care of us for the entire night (later on we found out that she was the chef’s wife and that the restaurant is fully run just by the two of them). The restaurant is not cheap (might be a little bit more expensive than other good restaurants in Colmar) but all I can say that it’s the first on my list for when I’ll be back in Colmar!
Everything looks nice and clean. The woman who is serving is nice and friendly. However, I don’t understand how they get so many good reviews. The backoeffe we had was al dry, lost of potatoes and almost no meat and I have no idea how to make meat so dry. It’s only possible to eat this with lots of mustard. The wine is so so. Nothing special and way too expensive! Food not great and overpriced. If you can avoid, you should !
A recommander. ☺
