Oh my, this was definitely the best restaurant that we ate at during our trip to Charlottetown! I believe, it's now called the The Dining Room and it's located inside the Culinary Institute of Canada. I've eaten before at the Culinary Institute of America in Poughkeepsie, NY, but this was so much more amazing! I happened to find the restaurant by looking at google maps of Charlottetown. My mom wanted a restaurant by the water and I figured I should try the Culinary Institute in my own country. It's definitely on the expensive side, but worth every penny. I would definitely recommend going here if you're from out of town or for a nice occasion like an anniversary or birthday. We made a reservation, but the restaurant was about half full. It wasn't loud at all, my family and I could hear each other clearly without having to raise our voices, and it looks like the restaurant is newly renovated. Open kitchen, beautiful decor, and such a stunning view of the water! We ended up eating around sunset and it was absolutely gorgeous. All the waiters are current students so my dad chatted with ours about her program. I believe the menu changes seasonally, but all our dishes were simply superb. It did take a little while between courses, but we were in no rush and the view was stunning so we enjoyed it. I started with the foie gras torchon, and it was divine. I love foie gras but I had recently had some mediocre one in Toronto, so I was hesitant to try this one. At my mom's urging I ordered it and thank god I did! The foie gras melted in my mouth like butter. My family also shared the smoked seafood plate, there were oysters and other types of seafood along with bread. You could really taste the smoke, even in the bread. It was amazing. My dad also started with the mussels, which were great. My mom got a small plate of lobster (she doesn't eat that much), and it was great and the perfect size for her! I ate halibut as the main course, which was great, very flavourful and I liked the fiddleheads! My dad had lobster risotto, which was tasty and not too salty. We finished with a moccachino flavoured creme brule, which was super tasty. It really tasted like a moccachino. I cannot recommend this place enough!
This restaurant is inside the culinary school. Although the decor is not much to talk about, they have a fantastic view of the bay. Our friendly waiter, former student of the school, was very informative of the menu. We started out with a dozen of Raspberry Point Oysters, which were soooo gooood! Then we ordered cod cheeks, lobster ravioli, linguine with beef. All three were delicious. I don't usually order salmon back in the states, but given all the fresh seafood here, we ordered wild caught Atlantic salmon, totally delicious! I finished the evening with creme brûlée, yummy! I would go back. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for good food in the area, but reservations are suggested since it can fill up.
