Gillie's Seafood - Charleston

If I tell you this is something of the best food I had in a while.... I took the first bite of fried chicken, sat back in my chair and needed a minute. Tons of taste and very juicy. The collar and red rice were amazing and the Mac and the cheese is the hands down the best in the city, time. The soul roles are also from this world. Super friendly waiting staff was the cherry up for my visit. Will be back DEFINITELY. If someone tells you the food is not good here, stop talking to them. You don't need this negativity in your life.

That was my husband and I visited this place on Saturday, February 5th. Admittedly, we saw the Moonshiners Low Country Koch off Show they won. That's why it was a must to taste restaurant. Needless to say that we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious and amazing. It should be a sin for food to taste so good. Oh, my goodness, the grain bread is to die, it is extremely fluffy and full of taste and so delicious. I could eat the grain bread lonely. All desserts are homemade, we have the banana pudding. My advice is given 2. The soul food egg roll, prepare for your taste buds to learn what excellent food really is. I can go on and on. My advice is to try for yourself, you will not regret it. I promise.

As much as I want to give 5 stars, I just can't. Don't get me wrong, the food was AMAZING. My family and I felt like we left the street to leave Folly Beach, so we were good and ready to eat. We don't sit so bad that we were fed was the worst. It took 25 minutes to even take our order and bring water. It took another 30 minutes to get it, and it was wrong, missing food and only confusing on the server. Once the manager came in, she jumped into action and had everything to us in no time. I think the older gentleman who just woke up was the owner, and I was withdrawn that he did nothing to support the staff. Even the other employees did not help each other. It seems they don't have training. Again the food was really good, and KUDOS to the manager who went in and got the ball rolling!!! It's a great place, they just have to sort out more.

1. Let's see. When entering after a whole day Folly beach trip, we asked if we could sit outside after we see a beautiful outdoor dining area and were strictly told NO, you can choose a table anywhere in the middle so that we can have a table in the middle on the inside. We ordered the pick 3 baskets, shrimps, scallops, flounder. Also the baked chicken with 3 sides, and a shrimp taco. I am definitely a fan of shrimp taco, the sauce was really good, so was the ranch and so was the BBQ! The baked chicken was really good, Cornbread really good, Mac n cheese really good. Friends were fine. Seafood was good, spices were good.

After a day of self guided touring, we ordered pickup and ventured across the bridge from downtown Charleston towards Folly Beach. An easy drive on a Sunday. We ordered via phone. Wait was 25 minutes. The venue was right off the main road. Parking available in the front and back. We didn’t know they offered outside dining however it was packed so we maintained our to go order and ate at our hotel. My partner and I split a 4 item basket and a 3 choice veggie platter. The seafood was delicious. Seasoned well. Fried to perfection w/o being too crispy. I enjoyed the friend okra as well. The Mac and cheese was okay. The greens were tender yet underwhelming in taste. The coleslaw was decent. The hush puppies were good. My son enjoyed his hamburger. I would most definitely return. I hope you found this review helpful. If so, please give me a thumbs up. Thank you.
