Bidrage med feedbackThe insoluble problem was that I had purchased my two-course meal in advance on the British Museum website. Thus, the restaurant could not refund my money. Having had great experiences in other London museum dining rooms, I decided to order the fish and chips as my main course. I figured it would have to be extraordinary. It was. It was a disappointment when I saw it, but I soldiered on. THe food was dry. The thin hard chips and the fish soon grew cold. I asked for tartar sauce to supplement what was provided. Also vinaigrette, thinking I could improve it.I dug the protein from the hard fat case that surrounded the fish. I told the nice waitress that it had not been very good. She called the manager who was sympathetic but said she could not refund my money because I had bought the meal through the British Museum. The half meal I ate was sufficiently unpleasant that I could not accept her offer for another meal, coffee or certainly not dessert. I ended up getting my sparking water for free and they waived the service charge. Soon after I left I needed to return to use their toilettes. As the other women using them verified the toilets didn’t flush and had become unpleasant. A memorable meal indeed. Staff was pleasant but could not make it right. A total waste of my money and not very good for my health.
A very mixed experience. Firstly, the place was freezing and the service was completely indifferent. The food was quite adequate but nothing special. Overall it's not what we'd expected.
Had a late lunch here while visiting the British Museum. Service was adequate. I had the risotto appetizer. It was a very generous portion for a starter and presented beautifully quite colorful. It arrived hot right out of the kitchen. However, it was oddly bland and needed salt. I don’t generally salt my food, but this needed it. The fish and chips also came hot right out of the kitchen. It was accompanied by shoestring chips and smashed peas. The smashed peas were absolutely delicious (the best part of the meal) they were bright green and had a hint of mint. Next time, I’ll just order a bowl of smashed peas and be done. The fish also came with tar tar sauce that was very tasty. This was a nice place to rest and refuel after walking around the museum for several hours.
When writing a restaurant review, I always consider a few questions. Was it a pleasant experience? Yes. Was it worth the money? No. Would I do it again? No. If I can't answer yes to all of them, then I don't recommend it. We decided to try an authentic English tea at this location for the first time. The location was perfect and the tea was enjoyable, served in teapots and pretty tea cups. The food was nicely presented, although it wasn't amazing. We ordered water and sodas, but they were overpriced. The restaurant wasn't crowded, although there was some noise from below. Overall, it was a decent experience but not one I would repeat.
Afternoon tea for myself and my daughter whilst visiting the museum. Food was excellent and tasty, presented beautifully. Staff were friendly and efficient. A vey enjoyable experience surroundings are lovely too.
