Bidrage med feedbackAttended a small corporate event here. The space was perfectly arranged for our group with meeting tables in a sunny side room, and buffet style breakfast in another. Staff maintained the food service regularly and cleaned up so quietly I hardly even noticed them. Bathrooms were small and oddly located (under the stairs and tucked away upstairs). There seemed to be some historic artwork wood engravings) and likely some valuable books in the library, but no signage to describe the pieces. Getting there was easy from the T and there are several public lots/garages nearby.
Came here for an alumni event. The castle is beautiful. You can definitely feel the history when you are inside. There is a nice view of the Charles River from the back balcony. This mansion was built in 1915 in the Tudor Revival style. If you want to learn more about this place please get to their website. It is a pretty interesting read. I heard that there are many weddings and and other special events held here. The event catered appetizers and desserts. They were delicious. If you are ever on the BU campus this vine covered castle is a must see!
When my now husband and I were searching for wedding venues in the Boston area we initially assumed we would be unable to afford anything in the city due to cost (food and beverage minimum of 15k? No thanks). Then he suggested the Castle this place is a gem! Perfect location just by Kenmore square, it 's out of the way enough to feel private while still maintaining that city vibe, and to top it all off the interior is absolutely gorgeous think intricate wood detailing, a magnificent staircase, cozy fireplaces, and a floor plan perfect for an intimate event space. As a BU alum, he was able to snag us a steep discount on the rental fee, and the event coordinators were extremely flexible with creating a custom menu that let us keep costs down. Having everything from food and staff to linens, tables and chairs included was a huge plus we saved money and headaches by keeping everything in house, and our guests raved about the food, cake, and ice cream sundae bar with flavors we picked out from Richardson 's. The multi room space was a perfect size for our 84 person guest list, cozy and intimate without being too crowded, and the beauty of the venue kept decorating costs to a minimum. The staff transitioned seamlessly from ceremony on the landing to cocktail hour in library (spilling out into the beautiful garden space outside), followed by dinner in the music room and dancing back in the main foyer. The end of the night brought a grand exit onto the streets of Boston, with guests able to walk, drive or catch a cab to nearby hotels or homes. We got a few drunken cheers from college students on our way out, but the castle is set above street level and far enough from the main parts of campus that we weren 't mistaken for a frat party (I guess this is the price you pay getting married in such a student filled city). Our day of coordinator Sophie Charron deserves a special shout out for going far above and beyond her day of duties. We planned our wedding from out of state and she was extremely responsive to my many emails over the months leading up to the wedding day. She seemed to be everywhere at once yet completely out of the spotlight on the big day, managing all the tiny details that let us just enjoy the party. Thanks to Sophie and everyone at the BU Castle for making our wedding day absolutely perfect!
The Castle is a beautiful venue for an event. In my many years at BU I've been here for a variety of receptions, lectures and concerts. There are beautiful light fixtures, gorgeous wood carvings, and great views of the Charles River. Also, not to be missed, in the basement, accessible by a separate side entrance is the BU Pub (see its separate page on Yelp).
My son and daughter in law recently used the castle for their ceremony and reception. It was a wonderful venue for the 50 guests the flowered garden, the elegant balcony overlooking the Charles, the roominess, the flow from room to room, the elegant decor. The food was very, very good from great crab cakes and mushroom stuffed profiteroles to pork tenderloin with pear jus and the most spectacular mashed potatoes (really! The wedding cake was beautifully done and totally yummy. Best of all, though, was the terrific coordinator, Christina. She oversaw every detail of the planning with quiet competence and tact, never overstepped, and was there every minute of the event itself. It was pretty wonderful to have a coordinator cry at the vows, and offer hugs at the end. She belonged at that moment to our family. Costs were very reasonable. The funniest part is that I got a degree from BU in the distant past, and never even knew this was available. Take a look I think you will like it.
