Cafe de la Paix - Bagnères-de-Luchon

Had our first meal here during a four night stay in Luchon. Very friendly waiter, and the starter was spring rolls for me and a fish soup for husband both delicious. we both had entrecote for main course and it took an age to arrive and was enormous and not particularly great . Unfortunately too big for both of us , and no dessert either as couldn't wait any longer. Others were also bothered about the very slow service. Maybe just a bad night for us and short of staff in the kitchen hope so . Anyway nice atmosphere but main course not really up to par although starters were fabulous.

Just stopped here for a casual sandwich and coffee, to be faced with a bill of 12 euro. This despite the fact the lunch board outside advertises a 3 course lunch menu for 14 euro.....you do the maths. When I brought it up with the owner/manager, I was met with derision. Absolutely do not recommend. Stay clear.

Just went one evening for a small meal, one burger and chips, and one duck brest and chips. First point they were been cooked together on the same hot plate, so juices mixing. The chips were so soggy, terrible. The duck too well cooked, not good. The burger ok but nothing special.

We struggled to get a table at any of the other restaurants and were pleased that cafe de la paix had the capacity to seat us. Very quickly we realised that maybe we were better off getting a take away. We were plonked on a table upstairs next to a couple of tables that were yet to be cleaned and filthy. My seat didn’t even have any cutlery set!! Initially thinking that the place was overly busy, turns out it was most likely understaffed and poorly serviced. To top it off, the large party behind us were complaining the food took too long to arrive. The food wasn’t memorable and neither my friend or I who both ordered the duck finished it. We still had the sweats from trying the cut the duck with a blunt knife. Overall our experience wasn’t great, this could have been down to the time of year.

The dishes were good, the pleasant atmosphere with a very beautiful music of the 1980s, I recommend
