Bidrage med feedbackParty of 4 for DinnerThe restaurant is located on the corner of North Highland and Sampson Street. Parking is a bit of a challenge. Your best bet is finding street parking. I was told by a waitress that there is a parking lot on Sampson that is free for 2 hours, but I was able to find something on the street directly across from the restaurant on Highland. We entered the restaurant, requested to sit outside and we were seated immediately. The place itself is not huge. It has a decent amount of indoor seating and a small outside seating area. Our server, Aiyana, came to give us our menus and glasses of water. She was very friendly with a great attitude. Our outside table was a little shaky. We were joking, not to lean on it because it probably could not support anything too heavy. We all reviewed the menu while enjoying the music being pumped outside. When we first arrived, the music was pretty loud, but they eventually lowered the volume to a nice level. The menu had many of our favorite food items and had a lot of specialty drinks with a small, but respectable craft beer selection. I ended up ordering the Hi-Wire IPA. For food, Wifey and my oldest ordered the Shrimp and Grits. My youngest ordered a Cheeseburger with Fries. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles. The food came out pretty quickly. I received 1 big kinda thin waffle and about 4-5 chicken tenders(not wings). The tenders were crunchy on the outside, juicy on the inside and with the syrup, I really enjoyed it. The shrimp and grits portions were huge. Wifey gave it a 9 and my oldest gave it a 7. They both enjoyed their meal and had enough to take home. My youngest also enjoyed her cheeseburger and fries, no complaints. One note about the restrooms: they were not the cleanest and you have to pass an open garbage can to get there. Not very appetizing. I would give this place 3.5 stars, but there are no half stars here, so Aiyana’s great attitude pushes it to a 4.Parking: Look for street parking. Waitress advised there is a parking lot on Sampson.

Visited Highland Bistro with some friends that were in town. It was our first time coming here.We walked in around 1PM and the place was empty so we were seated right away. They had a live DJ which was cool but at times a bit too loud for an empty restaurant.I ordered a slushy drink $8) and it was pretty great. For my entree, I ordered the chicken and waffles. When it came out I was a little disappointed because it didn't look like previous chicken and waffles. It looked like chicken strips and waffle. The bourbon syrup and peppercorn butter were not included as the menu suggested. The service was great so no complaints about that. Not a place that left a memorable experience.
Buckle up....this is a long one! And the only reason I 'm being this detailed and thorough is that I 'm really hoping management/ownership will read this and the other 1-2 star reviews and actually make some changes. Sigh.... I am so supremely disappointed in our experience today. This is the third time I 've visited Highland Bistro. The first was for a friend 's birthday. It wasn 't too busy, and while service was slow, the food was decent so I had no complaints. The second time I came, we attempted to eat, but one of the servers at the door said the kitchen closed early so we couldn 't be served. Today was the third time and it was a mess from the start. My partner and I came in as a party of two. Two other parties came in a few minutes before and after us. After waiting at the door for a few minutes with no acknowledgement, a sweet older lady with blue hair greeted us and said she was working to get us seated. FYI, she 's the only reason I 'm giving two stars. We were second in line to be seated. The lady walked back to the back, presumably to check on table statuses. By this time, we 're probably here about 10 minutes. Then, one of the servers comes up to the party BEHIND us to seat them at a table that opened up. The party even pointed to us and said They 're next to one of the servers near the door, but someone else came by and seated them. Clearly there was a miscommunication (likely the first of many that day), but nevertheless, we waited. We waited another maybe 5-10 minutes, and in that time my partner walked over to Highland Bakery to see what their wait time was (they didn 't have one). By that time, the older lady found us a table, so we decided to stay. He checked with Highland Bakery around 209. We did not get any food until after 315. I know this because I had actually checked for a reservation at another restaurant earlier today, and they had one for 315. I remarked to my partner that we could have been close to eating if we had just went to the other restaurant. Anyway, we finally get our food. My partner ordered the salmon hash and a side of grits: small serving of eggs and smaller serving of sweet potatoes. The grits were a healthy portion. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with chicken sausage on a croissant. The only thing the kitchen got right was the croissant...somehow I got a burger with a fried egg and bacon. Sent this back to get my original request, which was sloppily thrown together (seriously, I should have taken a picture) when I finally got it. I actually tried to just cancel and get the check instead of waiting another 10 minutes for the correct sandwich, but the server basically ignored us until she had the new sandwich to bring. I know this because I waved in her direction and made eye contact, but she didn 't come back until she had the correct order. Everything was disappointing. Everything!! The service was incredibly disorganized. At multiple times during our meal, we could see servers grouped together trying to figure out who gets what. I saw at LEAST two other parties complain to their servers or the cooks (we sat in full view of the kitchen so I could see all of this). The food was AT BEST ok, and that 's when I actually got the right thing. I truly go out of my way to patronize black businesses. And I 'm not expecting perfection by any means. What I do expect is a staff that is organized, actually attentive and provides updates when there are delays. There were several servers on the floor today (at least 8, maybe more), and the restaurant is on the smaller side, so there is no reason for there to be such disorganization and delays with no updates. If the kitchen is behind, it 's easy to convey that to your patrons. I didn 't personally have a rude server (thankfully) but there are rude servers on staff; I could tell by their demeanor and interaction with other guests. Let me also add, it doesn 't help that the music is blaring so you have to damn near yell to talk to your party. If this
5 of us came for a Saturday Brunch. Was live music. Everyone was very friendly and attentive. Friends ordered the Chicken and Waffles. One friend said the chicken was fried in the same grease as the fish and flatly refused to eat it. Everyone else ate theirs but said it didn't look or sound like the description (bourbon syrup and something else). I had the Philly with mushrooms substituted $17 which was pretty good, but maybe not worth $17. Fries were excellent.
