Early Bird Cafe Bakery - Angel Fire

This place is a hidden gem in Angel Fire. While the building may look nondescript from the outside, the food is great and the service is friendly. Not sure if he was the owner or not, but a friendly gray bearded man kept my kids entertained while my wife and I were scarfing down some delicious chili rellenos which were absolutely fantastic! Would definitely go back. If you are going for breakfast on a busy holiday weekend be sure to get there early. We had to wait a while, but worth it.

Well, there 's a review I just read praising the huevos rancheros in green chile sauce. Unless things have changed drastically in the past couple of years, this is one of the less appealing dishes I 've had in a while. Imagine your huevos rancheros (in this case simply eggs placed on top of a tortilla) completely drenched in a slightly green very thick cream sauce with no particular flavor. That 's what 's going on here. We had a couple of donuts, too, which were maybe one step down from Dunkin ' It 's hard to mess up donuts, but it was fine, so we break even there. So to step back a second, this is as local as a local place gets. There isn 't even a sign on the bare wood siding of this diner, just a very strange painting of a man thinking about a hamburger (you kind of need to see it). And so there 's that kind of wonderful homemade quality about some local places where the food is great and reasonable and mostly people that live there go and enjoy the benefits. Then there are places where the food standard and quality are just low. Not to be Mr. Capitalist, but there really isn 't much competition in this part of New Mexico. The service, on the other hand, was terrific. Warm, friendly waitstaff, and the food came pretty quickly. And that gives them about plus 1.5 stars in my book.
