O Pescador - Amarante

The setting alone is worth a visit. Lovely place right on the riverbank and directly across from the magnificent church in the square on the other side of the river. The restaurant is only a minute or so from the bridge spanning the River Douro. Food was good and cocktails very welcoming on the outside pavilion.

Our taxi driver recommended this restaurant which is primarily a fish restaurant. The fish delivery is every day in Amarante as the van drives from Porto with the fresh catch so you can be sure of having the best fish. Nice atmosphere very Portuguese and plenty of locals eating there.

A nice place to eat in Amarante. The restaurant is typical and maintains it's original look. The steak is great and the other options also, the detail to be a normal evaluation is the fact that the fish options were very limited and the clamshells weren't Portuguese Vietnamese cheap option). :

So, we arrived to the restaurant by chance and with the intention to have lunch. First thing compare the prices between the menus in PT and EN. For kids they actually have half portions.The food was not bad at all but the waiters could not understand that we needed olive oil.and vinegar and brought grapa and Porto instead. The portions were quite big. The pork steak came in 4 pieces with a big portion of French fries and fried eggs. Nevertherlless I doubt it whether we would come here again.

We went for a late lunch on a Sunday. My wife had roast chicken and a glass of wine whilst I had veal and a beer. Both came with loads of roast potatoes, a large dish of rice and another dish of salad. We'd have happily shared one meal, the portions were so generous. And all for just 21 euros. A bargain by any standards. It's not stylish more of a family run restaurant, but the meal was excellent.
